Price for hay making

i suppose this has been done before:oops:

So I am mowing tedding raking and baleing for a neighbor. Will do tight 1.6 bales. Small fields and small crops. I was thinking €8/bale but think I will be out of pocket but think any more will be too much for him.
I am not a contractor and have enough of my own to do, so am only doing this as a favour...

I will help anyone out if they are genuinely stuck or in a fix.
When dad retired in '96 he sold everything and I started from nothing.
I built up what I've got and about 5 yrs ago I felt a bit sorry for a neighbour who was trying to make a bit of hay with some antiquated old kit. I turned into the field and finished off his mowing for him and helped him make his hay. My other half pointed out that he had been farming for over 50yrs and had every chance to update his kit and have an easier life but had made other choices ....i.e. New cars, holidays etc. .
Last year the old boy sadly died but left a fortune.....made off the back of people like me ......I'm a bit more careful now

Apologies for hijacking the thread but what would people charge for stacking?
4ft rounds in the corner of a 15acre field? Per bale or on time?

I have figures for all the other operations.

Quite hard to answer as you are in France, but in England ....(not Wales where apparently Farmers Sons work for peanuts with Daddys machinery) we would charge £11 / acre mowing, £5.50 tedding and £6 rowing up. We would add slightly more for small areas.

Sounds like you are going to subsidise his haymaking out of your own pocket and the farmer will still think it is too expensive from what you have posted !! :scratchhead:

15yrs ago it was 7euro at bale to do your own but was 4x4ft chambre figures. I've a few hectares to do, you can come and do them for me at 8e!! 8e would be very very good mates rate

As @spin cycle suggested, half the hay is a common arrangement. I had forgotten. Last year these bales would of been €40 plus. Who knows this year - loads of grass but probably be feeding in a few weeks time...
