On 3-5 year leasesIt’s a pee poor situation. Tennant farming has gone to the dogs. It will slowly kill the industry if young farmers are not given real opportunities on farms that are not just marginal land for sky high rents.

I'd love that much security. All I could find were 200-364 day leases. On 3-5 year leases
A lot of ours are just word of mouth, life's like that, folk can do what they like with their landI'd love that much security. All I could find were 200-364 day leases.
Aha tenencies should never have been done away with. Nobody can build a future with all the uncertainties of 1 year rents
Fair enough but what seems to be happening now is all the farms are being taken back in hand. So we are going to end up in a situation where the number of farms are dwindling. The balance is shifting too much the other way again.I agree that short term tenancies are no good for businesses, or the land, but the AHA tenancy rights meant that no land was becoming available as most landlords were unwilling/unable to sign away that land for 3 generations, quite understandably. The whole lot had ground to a halt prior to 1995.
well if that pays the owners better than letting then that is what will happen. its partly gov policy drivenFair enough but what seems to be happening now is all the farms are being taken back in hand.
