Yes, the likes of the RSPB and NT are among the largest recipients of government payments, and they intend to keep it that way. They have a huge amount of influence, indeed the RSPB have offices inside DEFRA and they will be using that influence to lobby their own agenda, and you can bet they aren’t going to be going out of their way to let “ordinary” land owners/farmers get anything.

In Wales, our devolved government has been trying very hard to remove the term ‘farmers’ from the system, instead replacing it with ‘land managers’. Basically to dilute the pot further, to include the forestry guys, rewilders, etc.....?

Maybe they should spend more time focusing on reducing the bloody council tax, because they are taking the pee on that one...

With respect, I think you underestimate the power of politicians and the Royal family. Why do multi millionaire businessmen enter politics? Because they can influence financial decisions ;) i.e Mr Trump.

Whilst the Royal family and senior politicians have an interest in thousands of acres of farm land, we will continue to receive subs in some form and tax exemptions.

There can be no other outcome, money equals power. There are alot of wealthy farm land owning individuals in London, who are very powerful and influential, they will not allow their personal wealth to be adversely impacted upon.

We are mere plebs, we can discuss it till the cows come home, but the outcome will be the same, no major changes will be implemented which could negatively impact on land prices.
So why did the tories repeal the corn laws then?
And Maggie handbagged the eu into getting a rebate in 84 which seriously cut farm incomes

Two things will need to happen the day after subs stop, first prices for beef, lmb, grain+milk must rise, and the prise of imputs must fall, 240 ton for sheep feed or 260 a ton for fertiliser or 100 grand for a tractor are all grazy, so if 3billion pounds are taken out farms pockets what's to happen to save British farmers,??. These schemes for better air etc, are never going to come to anything worth while, l don't think people realise how this will affect everyone. 100 farms for sale and probably afew suicides down to it. Alot of guys in there sixtys won't care to much, but younger men must wonder what the future holds.

Probably less than £1billion actually goes to farmers
Banks, landlords and peddlers of unnecessary crap probably get 70% plus

Probably about right but how many farmers will realize and stop handing those people cash before it’s to late for their farm businesses?

I think I’ll make a start by stopping handing my landlord and my bank any more cash.? I don’t think it’ll go down well.....

‘Peddlers of unnecessary crap’ are harder of course, as they always have a convincing, well polished story to tell.

I suppose you’ve got to start somewhere!

Don’t know how they get new tractors out to NZ but second hands are put in containers and exported around the world.

A local farmer I know emigrated to Australia almost 20 years ago, he packed two tractors and a Land Rover into a shipping container along with other personal possessions, IIRC the cost of sending the container over was £900 allthough there were other fees such as getting the container to and from a port as well as handling fees at the port which IIRC took the total to about 2k.

I’m sure there will have been inflation since then but I wouldn’t have thought shipping costs would add a huge chunk to the price of a tractor in NZ, heck, not many are made here so there’s a transport cost getting them here too even if not as much.

I’d have thought currency could well make a bigger difference?
Tractors yes but Landrovers wouldn't be worth importing.
My nephew acquired a Freelander that was imported privately into NZ, but only passed its first WOF because it had NZ registration, must have been the second WOF that it failed on structural rust, not with fixing...?

At one point I could still 'hear' my bale beeper going off in my dreams/head under the shower/head between boobs

I realised then that although I do like machines, there is a limit [for me] just how much I want to do in them, especially in one day... I still do some driving but business pays better than work
I have nightmares about time clocks, if I'm ever under duress and have to work with time clocks, other people will have nightmares about what I'll do to time clocks.....

Just make sure I'm not working with sledge hammers or axes!!!???

The world is a different place now. Land is touching £20k an acre around here, all propped up by London money, (mates of Boris) there isn't a chance in hell the government will allow it to devalue by cutting subs drastically etc. Boris would lose all his friends.

I am not saying it is right or wrong, but they hold the power and will inevitably look after their own pockets.

They didn't buy the land for income, it is a tax shelter for them. Most of Boris's mates wouldn't even miss the money if they stopped getting it and I wouldn't expect them to equate a loss of BPS to a loss in their income anyway as they get rent from the farmer not BPS and won't put 2 and 2 together until after the subs are gone. I think you are making some pretty unlikely and dangerous assumptions with your theory.

I think you will find that he is referring to the claim made on here that land value will plummet - so their investment of say 20k acre goes to say 10k an acre.

So please do tell us all who these investers are that would happily lose that much money, because lets face it - these people are money driven, and they would not be able to sell their land as it would be common knowledge that land has been devalued..

Too bad Wales will have to find alot more money now
no more money pouring into it from the EU.
I hope they dont expect the rest of the UK to pick up the bill.
