I used to wonder how much lime got blown away at times probably less than it looked, we use to get damp lime if it was windy and the job had to be done or was next to houses or something, dont recall having trouble with fibrophos though perhaps it comes dryer than it use to

I’ve not got to grips with that entirely yet @brentnz . Ground conditions have been dry and nearly everything we’ve done has been on stubble.

As we go through the season and more land is cultivated we will probably need to get the crab steer sorted. However, it’s not really the golden ticket it seems because crabbing the machine affects the spread pattern. The more you crab the worse the affect on pattern so it can only be used on a slight angle anyway.

It does often come very dry and some loads are quite hot so they dry even more after they’ve been delivered.

If we all went out to do a job when conditions were 100% then we would be sat around an awfull lot waiting with not a lot getting done. Cant all be perfect farmers i suppose [emoji57]

Great to see it in action @Cab-over Pete after following this thread from the start and the high's and low's you have been through to get to where you are now, i wish you all the best [emoji1303]

Things are rarely ideal- It’s been said here before, and I think it was by yourself Pete that actually the amount that blows away although it sometimes looks bad in reality it is not very much “it wouldn’t be enough to fill your granny’s handbag”

If lime is say £25 a ton, the amount that blows away would hardly buy you a pint in the pub..

Try not to these days too many feckwits who know it all ,shame but heyho
I’ve mentioned it a couple of times on threads about how negative people are and get shot down with comments like “I’m entitled to my opinion “ which is true but decent manners should make them think “hang on the person is obv proud of the job /thing they have posted so I’ll hold back my negativity “ hey ho some people are just plain rude

Great to see her going Pete, looks great! Could see the conditions were less than ideal but you got to go when you’ve got to go sometimes!

I was also going to ask about the crab steer. Can see how having it fully crabbed would effect spread pattern. If the wheels were fully offset, rears on fresh ground, would it make much difference to the overall soil compaction? If the reduction was significant and it was worthwhile running it fully crabbed all the time, is there somethings you could adjust to correct the spread pattern? Adjust the setup of the discs, vane angles or something?

All it needs is to mount the spreader body on a swivel ring from a 360. As you crab the wheels one way, the spreader body counteracts itself the other.

Probably a 5 minute job for Pete given the speed at which he's managed this engineering challenge! :p

Opinions are like arseholes.

Everyone has one, but that doesn't mean you should get it out in public.

I was going to suggest the discs pivoting, but then your into all sorts of problems regards the product dropping in the wrong spot on the discs.

A swivel ring off a dumper would work under the body, shame not to use crab when you’ve come this far,I’d say it’s a must.
