Think the biggest problem is customers with unrealistic/unnecessary expectations, a few customers that would rather not have a trailed limespreader but have a trailed drill, sprayer, grain trailers, balers, bale chasers, bale trailers all running the same tramlines they want you lime spread on.

The customers who are expecting you to spread lime with a hovercraft loaded via telekinesis are probably the same ones who would cancel on you after 1mm of rain or £5/t drop wheat price.

79 pages of how to complicate a simple job.
wouldn't a trailed spreader with the right wheels/tyres on spread the weight more than all of it on 3 or 4, can't see the problem

Ok. Here I go again....

As things stand at the moment it is illegal to tow with the Big A. There is no handy way of mounting a loader to it without seriously compromising its use.

I don’t want a tractor and trailer set up as my main spreader. (there may be plans to help with this, but that’s a good way off)

The Multistrife was good, but just crumbled apart because it’s nowhere near the machine it was sold as, plus it’s out of its depth on banks.

Putting the Big A on a low loader is expensive and legislation very tricky. Look up wide load regulations. It’s a bloody minefield.

The Xerion is very capable but not all I hoped it would be. Various reasons, but it’s just a bit of a let down. But it’s still the best option all things considered.

I’m not going to employ anybody just to drive a loader from A to B, neither would anybody else do that either. It’s madness to suggest you pay someone to do maybe two hours work and pay them for a fifteen hour day.

We get the farm to supply the loader unless close to base just too much hassle to shift a loader about. The contractor before me who had given the job up had always supplied a tractor and loader with his big A but I couldn’t work that way tbh most people have been happy to supply loader. As I say if I was coming in to drill farm would supply loader and if I was coming to spread muck I could have loader for a day or longer so if I come to spread lime it should be same previous contractor couldn’t,t make it add up financially so neither can I But having said all that Cab over Pete why not go on the forklift yourself for the easier job and employ a driver on big A giving you time on phone to organise the jobs given that you could spend many thousands on machinery to make it all legal spend the money on wages instead just an idea to think about if you haven’t already

Artic and low loader! Simple solution
restricted o license = no transport manager requirement!
Pete’s pretty much as good as I’ve seen with his spanners and a welder, loves a winter project! Etc etc
i reckon he could purchase an older Tractor unit and low loader for circa £15k tart it up over winter to make a respectable outfit!

as for wide load movements etc, nothing to be worried about! I use ESDAL portal regularly, all it needs is 48 hours clear notice, or you could ask your local police forces wide load supervisor for a general dispensation for a period of time, it really is that easy!

Strange that, all the lads round here all have their own loaders they tow with them.
Remember as a kid the guy that used to come here with 3 Big A’s and towed a Ford 555 loader behind one of them. Had a jaw hitch on the bucket and pulled behind with the engine running.

Another local guy with a trailer spreader has a hydraulic frame on the back of the loader that pushes a pair of super singles down to lift the rear wheels off the road.

Also seen a 360 with a set of super singles to pull behind Big A.

I assume it’s down to interpretation of the law but if braking was an issue then it would be very easy to connect up brakes to a super single dolly.

3 big A s! You must have had a lot of lime to spread.

Perhaps @Cab-over Pete you could trial asking customers to supply a loader, surely every farm has a telehandler or decent fore end loader.

There's always compromise, it reads like you're compromising the best spreading vehicle, the Big A, to be able to tow your own telehandler.

It could be easier and more profitable to communicate to customers that you require a loader for the duration of the job.

Give it a try it won't cost you anything.

Who won’t be happy? Me?

I’m out on the Big A today and happy as a pig in muck.
