can't find a wagon trailer hitch but what about a scaled up version of this. Think of it upside down

I’ve had the trailer drawbar modified. Had to build a drop into it to avoid hitting the spinner box on the Bredal. I’ve got a new clevis hitch on order which will be welded onto a HD bracket and bolted to the pre-drilled recommended mounting plate on the Zetros. I thought best that job was done by a professional coded welder.

If I’m honest, I got them to do the trailer drawbar too. I don’t have anywhere I could do a job like that in the dry and when it came cold and snowy I gave in!! They were impressed with my design though! The job was done exactly as I asked so I was pleased I was on the right track. I really thought they would say it would be no good like that!

The trailer will now only fit the Zetros and the Big A so I’ll have to make an adapter if I want to pull it with a tractor. The ring is too high for a pick up hitch at 620mm from the ground.

Would the continental ladder hitch be any good for using your tractor ??

For hooking on a tractor or forklift extend the bottom box forward under your new hook and make a hook at the correct height for the tractor just forward of other hitch point say 150mm odd forward then when hooked on tractor upper hook is up in line with pto stub but back enough to never touch done this in the past sounds weird but will work then no hassle even did a cad drawing for youimage.jpg

You should have a look at the duomatic air connection system.
On the truck end you pull a lever & it opens the unit up, (bit like a mini clamshell bucket) then you drop the trailer end into it (2 lines are on a 1 piece unit) & let go of the lever, it pulls the 2 bits together & that's the air lines connected.

I used it on a livestock drag trailer, didn't think much looking at it but once I used it I loved it, no more pushing & pulling lines, was easier than connecting lights, only downside is it kinda limits the trailer to the one unit but if you have to crawl half under the spreader to fit lines I'd be fitting it.

You could make up an adapter if you need the trailer on the tractor tho.

This what is directly under the main front cross member of the Bredal, so as you can see, no room under that to fix any kind of mounting inside the chassis.
You can see there is room down the outside of the chassis to do something and there is more room on the other side.

Lots of room at the back so this is where we will fix it rigidly.

I was considering using something like these small top link units but instead I think I will use the Leisinger ball joints that were on the Xerion. They are maybe a little on the heavy side but better that than too small. Plus, the top links need a fair bit of vertical room, half as much again than the ball joints.
You can see the big dark grey cross member has been used and welded up at least twice already.
Recycling at its best!

instead of top links what about hydraulic rams all interconnected? edit i see that has been already suggested.

I’ve spent the last few days faffing around doing about a hundred little bits and bobs, mostly on the spreader body.
Bit of a disaster, the window in the front was in totally the wrong place for seeing into the body from the cab, which is a bit essential. I considered a camera but instead put a window in the front, triple glazed and protected by a piece of Perspex, which will scratch easily but is replaceable.
Also mounted an access ladder, put the signs on the side, sealed round various places, etc.
I decided yonks ago to bolt the guides onto the underside of the body main front bearer, just needing to drill and tap the underside and bolt the self made guides on.
Well, what do you know, there’s only one piece on the whole thing that’s stainless steel, and that’s where my holes needed to be. It took me an entire day to drill and tap 8 holes 12mm. Broke and buggered several drills and practiced my swearing techniques.

Creative Sign and design came last week to put the wrap along the cab sides and I fitted the rest of the bits and bobs of signs.

Today, I’ve fitted the newly powder coated mudguard brackets and the drawbar. I didn’t send the brand new clevis hitch to be powder coated, but have just noticed it’s going rusty already.

I got very despondent with it all the last two weeks. I just don’t seem to be getting anywhere. There are a few problems with the truck which I wasn’t told about so that’s concerning me. Everything works manually so there shouldn’t be any huge expense, but electronics are letting it down, as chuffing usual.

Only having an old open fronted shed with crappy knobbly concrete isn’t helping either, I’ve about had enough of working on it.

I hardly touched the machine two weeks ago. I gave up entirely thinking it would be ready for spring so concentrated on getting the Big A all up and running ready for the spring season, otherwise I was in danger of not having a machine at all!!

Hopefully get the body on tomorrow and then I’ll get her outside in the light and take a few more pics

Most folk wouldn't have the balls to tackle this alone, any project seems to drag, especially when there is a deadline looming. It will all come together in the end.

Thank you.

It’s a combination of many things I think. The budget is tight now having had a poor season spreading last autumn with the showeryweather and then we were stopped dead in October. I haven’t turned a wheel since mid October.

Consequently I’m trying to do as much as I can myself to keep the cost down, but within that doing all the little bits because I’ve learned over the years if I don’t do them at the start of a job they just don’t get done at all.

I’m not going here and there getting stuff either because of covid. I will have to have the gps man and somebody to do the hydraulic system but apart from that it’s just me, so I think I’m just a fed up with my own company!!!

It’s a bit daft but the sheep aren’t doing well either, so things are stacking up.

Spring around the corner though!!
