Funny you should ask. Now is probably an opportune time to tell you all something....

When the truck arrived on November 1st I quickly found I couldn’t get it into low range in the transfer case. I emailed the German dealer immediately and told them. I also couldn’t engage the pto and there were several lights not working.

Fast forward 5 months and we’ve had no help whatsoever from the dealer. Mercedes U.K. have absolutely no clout whatsoever so the dealer has been able to more or less ignore us (myself and Rygor Mercedes at Nuneaton Warwickshire).

They occasionally will bother to answer an email but all they do is ask the same questions: Have I tried turning the switch on the dashboard and am I sure it’s not working. They are not interested at all in sorting the problem out despite many assurances in writing that the truck was in full working order before I paid for it.

A German Mercedes main dealer has acted no better than a back street second hand car sales yard.

However, onward and upward, I’m not too bothered. We know what the problem is. There is an electronic control unit not working which powers all the switch gear on the dashboard. Most switches work, but some don’t. All the major functions work if we get power to them.

I can replace the unit at a cost of maybe £2000 or we can hard wire the switches no problem to get around the trouble for a few hundred pounds. It’s not where I want to be, but there’s nothing I can do about it. I spoke to Rygor yesterday and we’ve agreed the snide twunts in Germany are just waiting for us to get fed up, which we have, so they’ve won.

It’s just a bit galling that they’re not going to have to pay for it.

Never mind, I’m looking forward now. I’m flat out with spreading work at the moment and hope that will continue for another few weeks, after which we’ll get back on to it.

Tell them as it’s a problem and it appears that no one else can help, you’ve hired a crack commando unit sent to prison for a crime they didn’t commit, having promptly escaped from a high security military stockade, they are surviving as soldiers of fortune.......and should be arriving in Deutschland imminently.

that‘ll put the wind up them 👍

I was after a plastic elbow that fits in the top of a clutch master cylinder on my unimog. Price had nothing in stock but said they're showing 1000 in stock in Germany. Trouble is they won't release any. Not just a zetros thing. 😠
I dont understand why??!

A as far as I understand it, they don’t need to fit any parts at all to the machine and there need be no cost involved whatsoever.

All that’s required by Rygor Mercedes at Nuneaton is a file that has been downloaded from the machine and is somewhere on the Mercedes world wide system (I think it’s called Xentry or something).

If the German dealer, Harald Bruhns, would tell Rygor where that file is, they can upload it back to the machine and it should all work. But they won’t, preferring instead to ignore requests from me, Rygor and Mercedes U.K. and claiming that everything works fine.

Surely Mercedes uk should be able to get the information? It is there vehicle after all doesn’t hold much hope going forward if they cannot sort it from this end

I wondered why my truck wouldn't move the other day, I'd obviously left the range selector switch on "O" for the past few weeks and it finally selected it.

Those solenoids do give a bit of trouble Pete, you'll see a bank of 3 on a crossmember which are the transfer case (4wd) and difflock ones, and another bank which run the high/low range.
(Try prying the little clip out with a screwdriver and swapping the plugs if you ever lose 4wd, I've swapped the front and rear difflocks over so I can lock the front differential first).

Their switches are junk.
