Project Zetros

🤣🤣

well I have to say I was completely outclassed last night. Lack of research suggests my plan of “less is more “ just made me look like a complete amateur, made worse by the fact some of my lights lasted literally 5 minutes, failing before we even drove out of Bakers yard!

The commitment and time some of the the other tractor drivers put in to preparing their machines. was amazing. Some must have had thousands upon thousands of lights.

My brother on the left with his MX 170, my lad in the middle on our JD 2850 and the Zetros on the right. Honestly, if we had put all our lights on one tractor we may just have been up to scratch!!

I didn’t have the least lights of all the machines, but I was very near the bottom of the league!

It’s just lucky there are quite a few lights on the Zetros as standard.

Driving home last night we had to stop at the traffic lights in Banbury. Four lads, absolutely hammered, came staggering down the road and decided to clamber up the ladder on the side of my spreader for a photo!

Right then MB fans, now that I’m actually in the right thread, a little update.
In the last couple of weeks I’ve replaced the rear parabolic leaf springs to carry the weight a bit higher. The rear end was just a smidge low when fully laden which was affecting spread pattern. She now sits a few inches higher at the back and now with a 5 leaf spring plus helper she should sit level . With the 3 leaf and helper I just didn’t like the look of it.
I’ve had the rear wheel centres moved so she is now a bit wider . I also had all the wheels painted and the bumpers and steps done up too.

Looks very smart, a credit to you

Not sure. It’ll grow on me perhaps.

Looks great and a bloody site more up to the job than the Xerion. Well done, it’s been a long and for the rest of us entertaining road but definitely well worth all the work you’ve put in to it. I hope you are enjoying spreading with it.

The Xerion was very good when it was actually doing the job, it was just horrendously unreliable and expensive to run.

Glad I had it first though, otherwise I would always have been thinking “I wonder…..,?”

It’s nothing special. The very occasional moments I spend in a modern tractor make me think they are a good place to work.

But it’s got everything I need and nothing I don’t. It’s quiet enough, air con with no fancy climate control. No hideously expensive transmission, just a proven Allison automatic with a transfer case.

I don’t need or want anything else.
