Having a problem with ewes putting intestines out have cut back on silage and still seem to have problems. Any ideas
Got results back from the lab ewes have too much internal fat Never had a problem with the silage being too good before. They reckon the damage was done earlier

I hold off on the corn as long as possible if they are fat and let them lean off a bit
Put red buckets in if they are carrying a lot of lambs to stop any going over. Once they look to start needing a bite I start the feed.
Problem is that it is too late now to cut back. Was told by a sheep man today that he always feeds some molasses when they are in the shed as it’s high in energy and not as bulky as silage and passes through them faster

Interesting read this, we've got 2 ewes prolapsing this year. Was easy winter for them plenty of feed, all of the 115 ewes have good condition a little to much flesh still on them in my liking, feeding limited silage, sort of unlimited hay and concentrates and some licking stone for minerals. However even in the years before where they didn't get silage only hay and went in the stable/shed in way worse condition, we still had prolapses. Most of the reason ive gather over time are; food with high volume low nutritional value, too much fat in pelvic cavity and the 'build' of the sheep. Small ewes are more prone and its a hereditary condition.

Our vet ,big sheep area, insists some of the problem is to do with sheep gorging. So keep feed in front of them at all times and split the cake ration. Has helped here ,and also more texel cross than mules may also be a factor. Also cull anything that does prolapse.
