Ok so 18 days off lambing and had 2 prolapsed , they are fine but it’s a right faff to get them off the far fields , some say they remove all silage as soon as the first ewe prolapse, possibly go into blocks , any advice ?
how does that work, do you literally put like a 250kg bale for so many ewes over a set time period?Housed lambing here, only singles and ewe lambs get ad-lib hay, twins and triplets are restricted.
Ewes would naturally be on short grass at lambing and overindulgence wouldn't be that common.
We have a feed passage and barrier where all ewes can feed at once and just manually put hay along the front after they eat their concentrate.how does that work, do you literally put like a 250kg bale for so many ewes over a set time period?
Get bloods done by your Vet could be one of many things I found low Selenium and low Mag were causing most of our problems.Having a problem with ewes putting intestines out have cut back on silage and still seem to have problems. Any ideas
Is that crystalyx as ours always get them and doesn’t make any differenceWe have tried all sorts some years thinking we’ve cracked it but this year they have made up for any gains in other years.Happened to mention to a sales rep about it and he suggested trying those red lick buckets, reconned the urea in them would break down the silage in the rumen faster. So far it has worked in the 4 pens I’ve put them in,and they must be good because I haven’t had any in the other pens either since.
Crystalyx Standard (Black ones) have more Urea in and Mag but still ended up with eight prolapses so far ... one just carrying a singleIs that crystalyx as ours always get them and doesn’t make any difference
Do you think cutting forage right back is a better way. Heard some in the past just bang more crude protein at them.Crystalyx Standard (Black ones) have more Urea in and Mag but still ended up with eight prolapses so far ... one just carrying a single
Did she prolapse last year?Crystalyx Standard (Black ones) have more Urea in and Mag but still ended up with eight prolapses so far ... one just carrying a single
Have never had a thin ewe do it here!Lost 3 now and still 2 weeks off lambing, ewes are two fat I think. Very frustrating, don’t mind it if you can harness a normal prolapse.
No, every problem ewe is marked up for cull (ewe and lamb/s). I will get the feeding right one year ... got another 30odd yrs to try and nail it!Did she prolapse last year?
That was my thinking. We never seem to get mules doing it, at least not early.I think it’s more to do with what condition they were in at early pregnancy. Personally I think it would be foolish to cut the feeding down now I doubt it will make any difference and probably make more problems of other sorts ie lack of milk and twin lamb
Got them from Murray farm care, but crystalyx lookalike. Is that crystalyx as ours always get them and doesn’t make any difference
