Prolapsing Ewe

Clutching at straws here but could a ewe that aborted and was moved into a pen next to my heifers be the cause of a heifer aborting? Can sheep cause cattle to abort?

Some things can cross species alright, you're not supposed to house them near but I never heard any incidence of it.
What aborted the ewe

I honestly don't know but I'm due to officially start lambing on Sunday and I haven't had another ewe abortion incident. Moved the ewe to protect my other indoor lambers but just wondered as I think iv a heifer losing a calf.

Some things that cause abortion are definitely transferable between species but as it's only a couple of days(?) since the ewe aborted it would be a bit unlucky if it had caused the heifer to abort already. It could be more likely that you have the abortion 'agent' in your sheds.
Have you tested the aborted lambs to try and find the cause?

While we're still on abortions, I had this two nights ago....

A shearling (not due for about 10 days) straining really hard for about 30 minutes without showing any membranes or fluids. So I felt to see what was going on.
She was trying to deliver a dead lamb in the foetal position. After sorting it out, I pulled it. It came eventually but was a bit tight as the poor little bugger was full of fluid. As soon as the lamb was clear the afterbirth all gushed out in a couple of seconds.
Never seen a cleansing like it - it looked like it had been through a blender:eek:
All that she passed is in the picture - about a gallon of stuff that looked like rhubarb puree:facepalm: Don't beat yourself up @sjewart, it goes wrong down here too:cry:

Oh that does look nasty @yellowbelly. Sheep eh, who would have them?!

It's hard to say. We lambed her outside on drive to limit infection but put her afterwards in the only shed we have - in pen next to my heifers. Time will tell if heifer aborts but not happy to see slime behind her today.

The only other thing of note is this young ewe had 3 dead lambs last year but born to time. She's marked for kill now.
