That’s the view of Rob Gladwin, head of technical management for BASF Agricultural Solutions UK and Ireland, and he has good reason to be optimistic. “International trade is clearly the area where most uncertainty lies. But in trade decisions, whether with the EU or with other world partners, it’s more important than ever that we follow the science,” he says. “Science-based decisions are far more defendable and carry greater credibility with the WTO, as well as with consumers.” Use of technology, such as drones, should be part and parcel of crop protection going forward in conjunction with best use of chemistry.
