Protecting your mouldboards from winter rust?

Was always under the impression that used engine oil is slightly acidic so not to be used. I use gear oil on my big commercial plough and leave outside or stick in a shed depending on space.
Match ploughs, I use gear oil or some 40 weight oil, depending whats kicking about. Grease if leaving for extended periods (years) Just taken some boards off a plough I greased up 5 years ago, cleaned them with petrol and perfect, all still shone up.
Ground round here takes 100's of acres worth of ploughing to remove paint on new boards, if you're even stupid enough to try in the first place!!!!
