Thats what i always thought too @MrNoo re old oil
Ive a mix of waxoyl underseal and what oil looks thick in a large nescafe jar , a brush just fits in and lives there , lid on .
Yes, I've always understood engine oil is not good due to the acidity, plus all the other nasty crap that's ended up in there. There is also the fact that when you brush past it, you get covered in black shite! If its a small plough surely grease/gear oil would be fine, plus a sheet over it. If its a large plough I can understand the "quantity" issue....anyhow, it also probably cost a lot to buy, so it should be under cover...in which case a light oiling would be fine.
My first car a saab 900 had the engine bay and most of underneath done in black wayoyl .
It was just like brand new and preserved perfect , thats y i highly rate it BUT if u went anywhere near engine ur covered in black shite.
Other random shite , some forum discussions that they used less black wax to underseal a truck that white / clear presumably because u can see were uve been, but which do u want to touch
I had to take the paint off my new Overum XL boards with a flappy disk, and that was a time consuming job. Was a nightmare.
My plough is parked under cover. I spray metal with waste gear oil. Heavy and sticky. Hangs on well. It won't do twelve months, but will happily do from September ploughing until spring ploughing in April.
