Providing electricity to a caravan site

Caravanners run generators themselves, big generators can be pretty quiet and possibly sound proofed a bit away from the the site.

The other option is as you say off grid possibly with Solar panels for some electric.

I'd worry a 5 van caravan site wouldn't pay for a large silent generator etc, if it was for something like clamping pods then would be more viable .

If you started with a solar system or similar you could see how it went before deciding to spend the big bucks

We are in the very early stages of considering a small caravan site on the farm.

Our preferred site is 500m from the main farm, what size armoured cable would be required to provide 5 16amp electrical hook up points at this distance?

You'd want individual radial circuits to each hookup point, not many spurs off one cable. An alternative would be a ring main, but in either case for the distances your'e talking, both will be eyewatering.

List price ~£5k for 20kVA new super silent, but then you'll want an external run tank to be practical.

Nope, single submain to a local distribution board feeding out to the hook up points would be the logical approach.

You would ideally want a combination of renewables and a generator powering a large bank of batteries. You don't want the generator running 24/7 the running costs would be through the roof not to mention the noise.

I would think about a new supply in as if you’re only single phase you get 5 vans drawing at 6 in the evening you’ll soon run out of power for the farm or house as you’ll only have either a 80amp or 100 amp incoming supply
