The inductive proximity switch on the electric Speed wheel on my Amazone drill has broken. I have another switch that I could get to fit but the colours of the wires are different and therefore I am unsure which should cgo to which!.
The broken switch has a brown, blue and black wire and the spare switch I have has a brown, green and white wire. Could anyone enlighten me what to join to what. The brown is obvious I assume!. If I get them the wrong way round what will happen.?.
thanks.

You should be able to work it out with a battery & a multimeter, so if you connect what you think should be + & - you can then test for an out put. You will also need to check polarity of the signal ie they would both need to be marked pnp or npn.

Some are normally open whilst others are normally closed. Do not confuse this with npn and pnp - they are different features of the component.

Most have polarity protection fitted, so i think you should be ok to try it with a battery and multimeter and if you get it wrong it should not harm it.
If you get it working, then check the output type (no or nc) is correct before you fit it.
