Psoriasis

No Getting worse Frank farmer will take you picture of worst bits. That's why wont do foreign or any holiday or eve learnt or to swim in public. Very conscious of it am sat itching my leg now as writing this and looks like sawdust dropping out of trouser leg Alice. Diet wise don't know. But drink drives it mad. Especially few years ago had a night out with a polish lass and was on the vodka and home brew potato fire water and skin itched for days after with. Drink not. Std Ha ha before you comment. So just put up with it. Cold wet weather and if skin cracks Quite painful.

I went down with the psoriatic arthritis, almost over night, from being fully able to struggling with mobility big time.
hardly any psoriasis at that time, just a couple of patches behind my ears which i hadn't even noticed but the consultant found almost immediately.
various drug therapies have sorted out the arthritis to a great extent, but the psorasis seems to be flaring up more at times, nothing like as bad as yours, but enough to be uncomfortable at times.
they say stress can be a cause......

Dovobet prescribed by Dr clears mine up in about 10 days, put it on twice a day, e45 cream can keep it moisturized and stops the itching. Uvb light therapy kept mine at bay for about 18 months but was a ballache going to outpatients twice a week for 10 mins of light .course took about 6 weeks to do.

My mother has it real bad, on her head back, legs and arms.
Always worse when she is stressed over something.
She has tried all sorts of remedies and usually clears up for a while then reapears again.
Will tell her about udder cream @llamedos .

My wife suffers terribly with psriatic arthritis, the drugs she's prescribed have had marginal benefits. What have you been prescribed? What about diet? Thankyou

Apart from some steroids that provided a quick fix, I was put on methotrexate, which worked for a couple of years, although it wasn't a pleasant drug to take. After a couple of years it started having a negative impact on my LFT, so had to come of and sure enough the arthritis came back.
They put me on another treatment, I can't remember what that was called, but I reacted badly to it so was off that in a flash.
Currently I am on a monthly injection of golimumbab, which I am very pleased with. No side effects that I am aware of, and good suppression of the arthritis.
Which treatments has your wife had?

I am also on methotrexate and also fortnightly injections of Humira which is Adalimumab. Seems to be working well although think there are some side effects of methotrexate.
I am on methotrexate as well. Started on it about 12yr ago and kept trying other tablets as well. Stopped the arthritis going any worse but didnt get any better. Nurse got me on Humira and within 2-3 weeks felt a big improvement in my joints. been on it for 6 or 7 yr now and its been really good. started off taking it fortnightly but now on 3 weekly jab. methotrexate sometimes makes me feel nauseous for 2 or 3 days after i take it.

Aloe Vera drink available from Health food shops. I was sold a lot years ago by Simon Revell from Simba. It tastes absolutely horrendous but cured me of very bad psoriasis ( the only part not affected was my head and face). Definitely try it for a month minimum.

Did anyone see the Channel 4 programme 'Never seen a Doctor' episode 1 with Katie Piper? There was a young Scottish woman who suffered very badly with Psoriasis. The treatment she was given involved a coal tar ointment and hospital stay, and the results were very good. The treatment is only available in Scotland though:(

Try not to work in dry environments, keep the skin moist (Aloe vera cream, E45 etc etc) even olive oil in the bath water will help. Dietary supplements help such as fish oils etc..... avoid alcohol, fags and if thats not enough.....avoid stress ! Its a mixture of things that will help.

I am on the same have had trouble with being nauseous for 2-3 days they are just lowering my dose of methotrexate to try and help. The humira and methotrexate has really helped me first time I can remember no psoriosis. As used to have up to a third of body covered at anyone time. The psioratic arthritis is much better also it had got very hard to do my work everything seemed sore until I started the above combination. Now just find if pull something it takes ages to stop hurting.

I am not sure about diet it probably does make a difference. Tell her to keep on talking to her specialist it really does take time to get sorted and they do have to work there way through the drugs as some work for some not others. It has taken me probably over two years to get better.

@nick channer ,have you tried kefir Grains Some sort of culture, Ferment it in goats milk And have been drinking a shot glass full every day for 6 weeks , mine has 99% gone ,hair is starting to grow back no cracked skin or rough knees and elbows , pm your address and will send you some culture in a sealed glass jar. Brew it in a small Kilmer jar then strain culture through plastic or muslin sieve ,not metal put culture in clean 2 nd jar and repeat at room temp ,works best with whole goat milk

Polytar(?) I think it is called, contains coal tar, you put it in the bath, the old man uses it, smells a bit like jeyes fluid. If you think sunshine does it good then try mild doses on a sunbed first- cheap and no one need see you if you don't like the idea of sunbathing in public. Swimming in the sea is supposed to help. Interesting that people have said their diet helped sort it.

My wife has it - loads of it, scalp and elbows/knees and spreading.

She's tried most of the coal tar stuff, every cream and salve... they work for a while then lose efficacy after a month or so

Reading your post @Will 1594 I will try the kefir as I already have a brew of it running as my stock get a cupful in their trough daily.
She was on methotrexate for a year and while it smoked the psoriasis the side effects weren't really worth it, in the end.
It was back in a week! :banghead:
