Hypothetically, if a pub was 'temporally closed' for a few years, no one living in the pub and the owners not willing to sell, but the building is still a pub and a protected community asset, can they be forced to sell so that it can be re-opened as a pub?

No, but you can make it a community asset so they have to give you first refusal when the do decide to sell it.

Google the ‘Plunket foundation’ they are very helpful with these situations.

case like in next village....up for sale ludicrous price or rent...then got community asset status.....was soon re let and doing ok ,i think.(y)

wouldn't have thought they could be forced to sell...but i guess you reach a 'mexican stand off' situation.....they can't get pp for change of use...plus have costs to pay....so re let on a doable rent
