Lot's of guff on here about farmers public image.
If you duff up a rambler, they won't buy your turnips. If you're rude to a pillock who's parked blocking your field entrance, they won't buy your oilseed rape, etc, etc.

Really ?.

I don't see tradesmen being particularly worried about their image. Nor scrap metal merchants. Nor footballers. Nor S/H car salesmen.......

Yet folks still buy S/H cars, sell scrap metal, watch football, and put up with cowboy builders.

And some of us receive very little, or no subsidy, so don't anyone bring that up. Or Brexit. Or pickups. Or John Lydon. Or woodworm.

They already have a terrible image so don't care. At present the public supports farming but too many fudge ups could change that. People can and do pay extra for British produce but how many pay extra for British wood for their extension? or buy solely British steel?

I do my best to get on with the public but know some farmers who jump at every opportunity to f & Jeff at anyone they see fit .

Yes, I don't go looking for trouble, I'm not suggesting farmers start chainsawing folks heads off for no reason, but, if someone's dog is chasing sheep for instance, they need to be told.
this^^^

Me too. I do try my best to be polite to the public at all times but sometimes they do need telling and I'm afraid once I start I give them both barrels. As said on many other threads, the divide between town and country becomes bigger with every year. My parents ran a corner shop in Kilburn, London in the 60's and most of their customers back then had an uncle or grandparents, great-grandparents who were farmers or country folk. Nowadays the closest they get is watching Adam Henson on countryfile. Not having a go at Adam btw, I think he does a very good job on the whole.

There are 5% of TSDG farmers who lost their Tesco contracts this year because (inter alia) they couldn't accept that the image that the UK public have of its farmers is not, in fact,'guff' at all but actually matters.

The worrying thing is that some farmers have to be reminded of this; some don't realise, whilst some just don't care.

IIRC reading another of your posts, that was because their farmyards looked like sh!te.
I'm not condoning that either.
What I'm getting at, is, if some knucklehead parks his camper van on your lawn, you have to bite your lip, say nowt, for the greater good......

Its more likely that tesco got rid of them so the remaining ones could produce more at a lower cost to make more profit for tesco, not that you ever bother to answer a question that blows your argument, but why do people keep buying ryan air flights, they have a terrible pr history, and lets face it tesco et al keep showing lovely pretty pics of their farmers and thats the view the puiblic see, do you really think tesco are going to put a sh!t hole in an advert, did their beef sales drop much after the horse meat cock up ? PR is nothing but a con, doesnt matter if its ploiticians or your local garden centre they all talk rubbish to make themselves look good, look at all the media companies saying they have mega fast broadand, we all know that in 90% of cases thats a lie

I'll put that down as a 'don't care', then.

Saw this thread - Public Image Ltd - enthusiastically went to first post and how could you dash my expectations - its about farmers and farming and not the man himself John Lydon. Awfully upset. But not to worry straight to you tube and a 'fix'.

What the public don't always see is that the farm and counryside in general is our workplace. I wonder how polite and concerned about their image they would be if we parked across their office/factory access or let our dogs sh!t on their lawns?
The crucial difference is that you are seeking to persuade them that subsidising your business is a Good Idea. (And that buying Welsh lamb and beef is an equally Good Idea.)

Remind me how much your BPS and Glastir is, again?
