Pulled the headstock off a Kverneland LD85 300

Asking this on behalf of a neighbour, and I haven't actually seen the plough.

He has a 'new to him' Kverneland LD85 6 furrow vari-width with a 300Hp headstock.
There are apparently four large bolts, with heads countersunk for a 14mm Allen key, that secure the headstock onto the plough beam. In work yesterday the heads sheared off these bolts leaving him with just the headstock attached to the tractor - a 210 Hp JD.

He wondered if anyone else had a similar problem, why did it happen and is it likely to reoccur?

Thanks.

We've 2009 lb85 6 furrow vari vidth and always used on a 230-260hp tractor and never had a problem.
No idea what the hp rating is for the headstock though.

After shearing the bolts between the top link bracket and the bottom of the A-frame for the second time:facepalm: on a KV EG85 auto reset we always made a point of fitting new bolts before the start of every season. No more trouble after that.

happens lots but normally people with a 160 headstock on a 200+ hp tractor which is what I always blame?

had the new to him plough been abused previously?

I advise if you've got a 150hp tractor you need atleast the 200 headstock not the 160 as there too close and you will swap for a bigger tractor then grumble if it breaks! (same applies to the 250, 300 headstocks etc)

also what do you hit to do this damage, mine is a shearbolt plough and half the time when it hits a massive rock it drags the tractor down and you can stop before bolt goes saving having to replace it. I think spring backs trip a lot easier than bolts but its not a problem resetting them.

we have a ed some thing with a 160 headstock pops the bolts quite often ours usually does them one at a time no big deal as long as you spot it before they all go

did he hit something?are the bearings ok in the headstock ?
it seems when you change ploughs you just get different problems we had a dowdeswell auto reset before and used to shear the bolt off in the center of the leg the whole lot used to come off and a pig to get home also the frogs would twist

What would you recommend instead

I'm not saying Kverneland are a particularly bad plough, but they don't deserve the status they have where people go weak at the knees about them.

I'd like a new plough, but have three problems

1) Cant justify it on my acreage

2) I cant afford one

3) I dont have a tractor that would lift a new 4F reversible with some toys on it.

If I wanted new, I'd look at a Kuhn Varimaster 123, they seem to be good ploughs, cope with most things, and parts are relatively cheap. Saying that though, it's hard not to find a new plough that's chuffin' massive! Stood next to a Amazone one a few months ago, it stood taller than I did, huge thing!

1&2) Don't buy new.

3) Buy a 3F, or don't buy a reversible. Forget the toys, what do you need beside boards, skimmers and depth wheel?
Tin hat on.

I have two reversible 3F's, a Lemken and a Dowdeswell.

I have fitted a hydraulic front furrow on the Lemken, I'd like one on the Dowdeswell but it's not possible.

Disks and Variwidth would be nice!
