Pushing milk through at Wash down

At washdown we push our milk through with water. But after some very dodgy water readings over the last month or I was wondering if we could push it through with air? The milker hits a button to push it through, all the milk is in the tank, pipe out, auto wash on and walk away. Simples

We have a small oil free compressor piped to the delivery side of the milk pump.End of milking hold the milk pump button in until the note changes, then flip the tap to the air line open for a few moments and all the milk bar about a litre is in the tank( a dribble from the milk pump between the non return flap and the air line and from the auto drain on the plate cooler).:)

I would if I could but I need a new phone for pics:(. The tap was welded in by a local engineering firm who specialise in SS.

Funny you should post this up today.

At the moment we we let the wash water push the milk through into a buckets and tip it in to the tank.

Quite happy doing that but I've just bought a 12,000 litre tank and the inspection hatch is in the front so won't be able to tip milk into it. The solution is as above, fit a purge valve and push the milk through with compressed air. All being done as part of the deal on the tank so hopefully it will work.

@Rossymons if you have a drain after your rubber flap on your milk pump there is no reason you couldn't fit a stainless tee and feed air in from the side just like vantage posted.

The only downside to pushing milk is purchase and running the compressor.(n)

Clean mains water here so just chase it,used to fill a bucket then tip into tank like lazy but don't bother now and chase it straight in.

We already have a compressor running for the ADF so bringing an extra pipe through on a tee is shouldn't be a problem at all. Makes perfect sense.

The compressor is probably underused only blowing up tyres and ADF

Well your nearly there.(y)

Just need a decent stainless tap onto the tee (y) I had one similar to the one vantage posted and chemical ate the ball away as it was copper.

Dad tried many years ago and failed. He had a rubber seal that was clamped either side - fine for a air only but hot water and chemicals just eroded it away and he gave up after a couple attempts.

Send me a pic of your drain valve type and I'll try and find you the bits.
