Putting electric fence cable under a road.

Hi currently have a large block of land without mains electric fencing, however we own the house and buildings on the other side of the road which has mains power. Has anyone an idea of cost and legalities of putting a lead out cable under the road and up the grass verge to where our land starts? Have already gone down the battery route and feel this is not reliable or powerful enough for our needs long term.
Thanks

Or solar.
A decent solar unit on a big pole that the hoodrats can't climb could maybe be the next best option to mains?
Have seen quite a good setup with a steel pipe set well in the ground, even the leadout is underground for a distance so would take some stealing it.
Culvert under the road even a distance away would likely be the most cost effective even over here..
How big is the block of land/ how many joules do you need?

The block is around 120 acres (50ha) with some internal electric. Currently have a PEL 415i running off 2 220ah batteries and two 100 w solar panels. Output is only just over 4kj with 4 earth rods, it may be easier to just add more batteries and panels to this to improve things. What are others thoughts?

Easy to do with a percussive mole. Make it deeper than 1200 below the road surface and there is no need to deal with councils. Especially if you can go from field to field and leave the verges untouched.
We can do it if needed.

Sounds like a good setup, would have thought that unit should be pushing out a few more volts.. Your earthing might not be up to the job. Is there any voltage on the stakes, do you get a shock off them?
If its permanently sited you could dig in a better earth crash barrier works well. I have 8m of box barrier trenched in to earth my 15 joule unit.

I have a fence cable that we got across the road through a drain, but my neighbour who works for a big construction company said we could mole drain it and a water pipe. ATM the water pipe goes through the same drain, but its lasted five years so far

We dug a trench in our field next to the road nice and deep with a 16ton digger, dropped a fairly thick walled 2 inch pipe with a cap welded on the end in the trench and the digger pushed the pipe under the road.

Obviously this isn’t legal but no one ever knew any different and it did no damage to the road, the man driving the digger had done it many times, he just got one of us to watch the tarmac in case there was movement.

From memory he had dug a fairly large hole on the opposite side so we knew when to stop

More batteries and panels won't increase the output of your fencer (that's fixed by the internals), just means less battery changing.
