Putting front weight on and off

Have a set of wafer weights that I put on the mf 5713. Iirc theres 11 × 45kg which is a pain in the back literally to do as I take them off and on as required. Is there a way of doing that as one using the front suspension raising and lowering? Near sure I've heard of it being done before.

Can you obtain another weight tray to put them on, I’m sure years ago we had a larger one that hooked over the original.
Put the weights on it and have them on some kind of stand, and have a tab welded on to put a securing pin through, providing you have a pin through your original weight frame.

Certainly could be done. Would need them held tightly together and spring locking clips taken out and some other way of locking them on. Then a platform to drive them onto etc. Would be complicated enough but only you can decide if its worth it.

If they’re the type that can be bolted together as a whole pack, we removed all the locking springs other than the outer 2, then lifted them on and off with a lifting strap through the lifting handles. Strap needs to be right at the front of the handle to get the pivot angle so bottom moves away first.

It is easier with one man on loader and someone else guiding them on, but can be on your own if needed.

On a JD 6170 M ,I bolt together the weightpack and put the pack on a small pallet. Then I use the articulate wheelloader and slide the pack on the rack from beside .
By use the articulate steering . I allways do it myself , no need with help.

Front linkages are not expensive if you shop about.if you have back problems they are priceless.when I bought my 7710 it had a front linkage and farmer fitted it just fir picking up and dropping of weight.will all due respect people who lift on and off weights by hand are brain dead

Errrr

I used my dead brain to make a front press/front weight

Weights on for cultivation, weights off for swath rolling

Dead easy to lift with the front links though ?

My other Deutz k430 tractor has both 10x40kg wafers, or a 600kg block made from bolted together zetor wafers that's lifted on with the loader tractor (which has front links, pictured above)

I tend to throw the wafers on more often than the block, but maybe I like the exercise ?

Almost as brain dead as those who just leave them on all year round.

I’m not meaning to offend anyone, but I’m sure you get my point.any mechanical way of lifting stuff is better than by hand

I grew up lifting hundred weight bags of fertiliser off the lorry, stacking them, then lifting then all into the spreader

It was a skill to lift the hundred weight and a half sacks of barley up onto your shoulder to carry them up the barn stairs to the hopper for the bruiser

Throwing a dozen or so hundred weight wafers onto the front of a tractor is, by comparison, childs play.

I'm a big fella as a result of the work involving weight lifting as a boy, but I now walk funny, dodgy hips, and knees that burn when the weather changes. I also regularly need my back tweaked to realign wandering discs.

Looking back, the time and effort of all the manual labour was utter madness ?

Having recently bought a tractor with front links, I can honestly say it's a pleasure to ballast that tractor, and I doubt if the novelty will ever wear off ??

@DrDunc i could have written the same post as you above.today I’m sitting with terrible backache which I’ve had for a month now.comes and goes like flicking a switch.used to handle tons of fertiliser in cwt poly sacks.pig feed, cattle feed and up till when we had auto feeders put in we used to throw 17 ton a week in 20lb pails into the pens.along with thousands of small bales for 8000 pigs a year and a hundred cattle too.im sure there are lots of us on here with the same story to tell.we knew no differant but are paying for it now.having just walked my dogs my mother decided I had to put weed and feed on her lawn which has not helped either.anyway I’ve gone home to rest and hide up for a while.all you younger people reading this take care of yourselves.its not good getting old after a lifetime of hard labour
