Putting time aside to just enjoy

Don't really have hobbies to be honest. I've had times in the past where I've had days off and would rather have been at work, particularly during the summer, where I've looked for a bit of time off just to recharge my body rather than my mind.

PC games I fiddle with but not much at the moment. I've got this weird colouring book I use for my studies, strangely relaxing to go through.

Since I've been brave enough to use my new chainsaw (bought before Xmas last year) I really enjoy the job now. The thing is way more powerful than the hand me down I had before and everything on it just works and is up together. Makes the job a real joy.

I do like going to the pub and mixing it with the locals. I think Somerset really is my home now and I'm proud to be part of the local community in my own way. I do miss the farming though. I think I always will, whenever and whatever I end up working, I think there will be days where I drive by and see a combine or chopper working and I'll reminisce and wonder if I'm in the right job for a second.

I do like these pictures people have put up. I do think though that Silverfox should have a thread just of pictures of his crops. Being an agronomist and a perfectionist isn't a good combination as I know to my cost but in his pictures the two shoulder up just fine.

Pub quizzes for me, do one or two a week.
We do a version called SpeedQuizzing were each team has an iPad and answer on that within 10 seconds so it cuts out Google and cheating.
We often compete against regular teams and one of those teams contains a local auctioneer/land agent/farmer, a couple of years ago a question came up…
How many acres in a square mile
A) 6.4
B) 64
C) 640
D) 6400
Amazingly he got it wrong and we got it right and I never let him forget it, I told his wife who is a customer of mine and I told everyone else in East Yorkshire too

A container is not even half that
Just getting quotes. 40 foot high top to Kenya £ 5000 more expensive than last year though. My spare time is spent finding machinery to fill it. And spending quality time with my son dismantling it although this is mainly because my daughter refuses to go back to England to do it.

Its that mixture of nerves, concentration and ultimately and satisfaction when they work well. Complete escapism. Until they disappear into the next county on their own private pheasant hunt.
If its your own dog definitely nerves, but also them just doing what they were born to do, whether it's a collie herding sheep, a lab picking up, a terrier bottling it's quarry underground or what ever and really enjoying it. I wish I enjoyed my job as much as the dogs
