Well I've tried something different today .
I found out the local Chapel has been giving out food boxes to those that really need them .....not the usual cadgers!
They are very careful who gets one and seem to have been able to sort it out .
I popped down to get my haircut and the lass was telling me about it and I gave the usual reply "flopping spongers....bet they all got expensive phones and smoke 40 a day " ......No she said quite the opposite ,why don't you go and see, they are packing the boxes up now ...... so I did . ( I left my wellies outside ) .
Each box consisted of some decent quality food ,vegatebles and fruit along with a small roast joint . I would imagine the box value to be around £30 to £40
The Rev explained to me that they didn't rely on social services for recommendations but word of mouth from neighbours etc . " why don't you come along with me now" .....so I did !
.......well it opened my eyes ...
Today I saw Poverty that I've never ever seen before within a few miles of where I live !
The Rev told me they can't tell me her circumstances, and I probably don't need to know , but he assured me that she was a genuine case and when she first popped up on their 'radar' she hadnt got a clue about meal preparation etc but the good ladies from the chapel have been teaching her how to cook etc and it's made a huge difference to her lifestyle and the 2 little kiddies .
I asked him about how they finance it and he said it's all paid for by the folks who go to the Chapel .
Today they gave out 7 boxes !!!

Happens all the time. My mother has a friend who is part of the WI and they have a weekly session where they teach teenage mums to cook. Half of them don't know what a frying pan is.

Never had much intrest In relaxing time but now I’m getting older and kids are growing up fast we’ve bought a cabin on an island. Nearest neighbour is on the other side of the lake. Kids and wife spend a lot of the summer there. I’ve got to go a few times and found fishing relaxing and exciting all in one. Very quiet there and bursting with wildlife. Everything from bears to wolves to ground hogs.

Best post on TFF ever. Please show us more.

I simply walk with my mate in his mobility scooter down to the sea . Being able to walk makes me humble as he can manage 5 steps no more. We simply chat all the way there. Then stand silent for a minute or two and listen to the waves….Life really is about the simple things. My little 4 year old comes with us some days and they chat too. Bliss! And costs nothing

Same here. I have become keener again since lockdown and although each outing might only turn up one curiosity of interest, after a year or two you can accumulate an astonishing variety of finds. :)
Should add pub quizzing, old farm stuff and helping Mrs F with her Dartmoor sheep as well.
have detectorists come here some of the crap they find i think is fascinating far more intresting than the roman!
