QMS on halal slaughter

Bit confused just been listening to the woman from QMS on the fed by farmers podcast and she was talking about halal slaughter being stunned first when I always thought halal slaughter protocol was that it wasn't allowed to be stunned first and had to have it's throat slit and hung to bleed out which is why so many people are against it. I did a quick google and google says the same as I thought. So have things changed or is it different in Scotland for some reason or is the woman wrong?

At the AHDB meeting I went to it was stated that 90 some odd % of halal is pre stunned. As long as the animal has the ability to regain consciousness after the stun then it counts as being acceptable for halal.

She roughly explained about the re gaining consciousness thing but not very clearly. So they have to be stunned with a less powerful gun than normal slaughter?

Electrical stunning can be stun to recover, if it is just a head stun, as opposed to across the heart as well. This satisfies the requirement that the animal be alive at the point of sticking. The animal is, in effect, suffering an epileptic seizure, which renders it insensible.

I was listening to something a few weeks ago about this. Apparently some halal is without stunning. All kosher killing is without stunning.
In my opinion both are equally cruel and unnecessary in this modern age.

can see why they can not come into the present day and bloody well stun them properly , make such a fuss about human suffering then don,t care with animals , pisses me off big time, should be uk law ,proper stun, end off

What do you call a proper stun?

The only difference between halal and any other lamb you buy from a butcher or supermarket is that a prayer is said at the point of bleeding.

Same as a Christian saying a prayer at the table, they say theirs at point of slaughter.

At that meeting I attended we were told that the chances are the lamb you bought out a supermarket was killed halal as it's that big of a market that all the big abattoirs kill halal then pack it separate.

Most non stun halal ends up in the back street halal markets you'd get in the inner city Muslim markets.

Do abbatoirs employ someone to pray all day for each sheep?
