Quad Bike Running Costs

Do they really do those “ham” keys? I thought that was just a joke when I heard about them

They do. The keys can be programmed either way, and are locked to the bike (a good anti-theft device in itself). One of mine was mistakenly set as a ‘work’ key when I got the 570. I thought there was something wrong with the bike as it was so sluggish.😲 My faith was soon restored when I put the other key on the stub.

It’s actually a very clever safety feature, if you have younger (& older?) riders using it too. It limits the acceleration and the top speed, but obviously still fast enough to do some damage if not careful.

I’m told work and ordinary mode, which can be selected on the handlebars, mean you use less fuel than if it’s always in ‘sport’ mode. I’ve not found out yet though.

Ah, maybe? I hadn't heard that.

Round about way for Carr's to get their foot in the door?
I thought it was a strange purchase tbh as Carrs already sell quads and have their own bike fitters, can’t really see what an independent quad retailer adds to their collection but what do I know.

Isn’t it standard practice for the big boys to buy up their competition? I know Wynnstay, MVF and (formerly) Countrywide have been doing it for years.

It seems strange to me as they will be competing with themselves with yamaha vs can am but i suppose they are controlling one competitor
Normally when you buy the competition it is brought under your brand so the competitor in effect disappears but Paul Chuter is still trading as normal

€4K inc vat?

Have a look on some of the completed auction prices to get more of an idea. I paid £1500 for a 10 year old, low houred machine, albeit in 2015. At the time, that was the going rate. I'd say that your price is a bit high at that, but local situations can be in influence I suppose, and the ability to do a test drive must count for something.

What's new cost?

€9k new. Good second hands scarce an expensive an for the amount of use hard to justify new. At its age is it likely to get troublesome an costly? Private sale so no guarantee.

50% of new at eight year old sounds a bit high. But if that is the going rate, you'd be better to buy new (cashflow permitting), use it lightly as you say and sell it for that in 2029.
