Quarantine

Possible travel conditions and restrictions coming now and for an extended period into summer ....

Covid test before exit (and possible quarantine on foreign shores) 72 hours of arrival date (could be tight for any ferry to Spain)

Quarantine returning home from a bike trip abroad, straight to hotel from the port for 10 days in a hotel room, looking at your bike in the car park from your room window

That’s going to scotch any notion of foreign bike trips in 2021

Good. But why haven't we had this since last February ?
Because it would have stranded million of people who would have needed to return
Australia prime ministers last March said they would not treat non Australians in their hospitals

by March covid was established in every county of the uk

the only country with a big enough security service to lock every one down enough to stop covid spread is China

A professor of epidemiology on the news earlier today made comment on quarantine.

He said government is introducing this primarily to minimise introduction of mutant variants, for fear the vaccines might be breached. He queried if this was of much use His view was the variants would arise anyway somewhere in the world and eventually spread round. His comment was given this how would the government ever get out of a national quarantine, could last for years. And given the connectivity of the UK economy with world travel what would be the long term result.

I see today Priti Patel has risen to the for. No holidays or any travel - not essential.

I rarely travel out of the local county although I did drive to Bath Monday night (3.5 hours then dropped daughter 3.5 hours back never got out of car apart from 20 minutes in Bath - before you berate me.)

But seems the Tories are comfortable to destroy chunks of the UK economic activity. Fascinating.

most people would not book a holiday untill they know they can go

some parts of the travel industry left plenty of people out of pocket or stranded in march

it will take me a year to catch up visiting relatives in the uk before going abroard and then i will probably drive

Being devil's advocate isn't that exactly what we've done by NOT doing this 11 months ago?

We could still have had a thriving hospitality and entertainment industry in the UK if we'd locked the borders and implemented a rigid test and trace with enforced quarantine. We'l simply aren't willing to accept it from the state so should stop whining about how hard it all is with a rampant virus.

I just love the holier than thou attitude of people posting here. It’s very easy to see how dictatorships and extremist states begin all you need is a common enemy and you can just start eroding their rights and things that they take for granted obviously it isn’t the jews or the muslims to blame now it’s people who want to go on holiday or people who travel. Covid did n’t kill my father Covid regulations did. Locking people away and denying them their basic human rights will not end well. If i have to come to the UK i will take a test and i will do my ten days quarantine thats fair enough but locking me up because i have business matters to attend to thats a bit extreme. Basically the Government have worked out they have a flawed vaccination plan. The UK is not Australia it’s too late now. Stop the planes and stop the trucks from Europe by all means you will be very hungry by Spring.

Hi, you ask a good question. I am not an epidemiologist so cannot answer with any authority - am just a punter. I suppose the example is New Zealand or Isle of Man. Do they have a thriving hospitality and entertainment industry? Would also require sealing the borders from freight traffic or at least the pilots and lorry drivers - could do that I suppose - pilots into hotel quarantine or make them stay on the plane. Lorries - trailers only across the channel or drivers stay in cabs for the time in UK. Interesting one for debate.

Exactly. I'm not sure it could have worked here like in NZ. We simply wouldn't accept the degree of control that the kiwis did plus we are close enough to Calais for folk to easily cross by themselves. Try doing that from NZ!

It SHOULD be fully discussed ready for whenever another pandemic hits though.

You should never compare us to New Zealand or any other small Island for that matter, but NZ is an extreme example of low population density which has helped so much, but it is also the end of the line. We on the other hand have a very dense population and are a transport hub for a huge chunk of the world. To close our airports creates chaos, however looking back I think it would have been a good thing to have done.

In case you're not aware, you can pay (they should make it free for UK nationals) to have a test after 5 days and if negative be released.

Well, whoever thought we would see the day when a UK citizen in effect required an exit visa to leave the country. I recall that was the thing of Soviet Bloc countries.
Yes i know about the five day thing but either way a supposedly free society imprisoning its citizens on suspicion really is not good.
When we ran farms in the Sudan a quite repressive police state your passport was taken away and kept by your employer and only returned with their permission. No one left without the permission of the State it is something you get used to in the third world but a real erosion of your civil liberties.

That'll be in an airport hotel and at your expense, won't it?
Well no because even though i have a father to bury and other affairs to attend to and an empty house to stay in and the fact that i cannot get on a plane without a negative covid test so i am unlikely to be spreading anything i don’t think i want to give Priti Patel and the rest of the gang of kneejerk incompetents the pleasure of locking me up at my own expense . So sadly i will have to stay here in our own Covid hotspot (1 death and 130 new cases yesterday) . You can believe it is for your own good but that horse bolted a long time ago. It really is just a Government that is bankrupt of ideas moving the deckchairs on the deck of the Titanic.

But if you did and come to UK you would have to go to a hotel quarantine centre and not your empty house
That’s a ruling because people haven’t been sticking to the quarantine at home
Rightly so

Yes but i have come twice and quarantined myself twice and at present i don’t think we are on any list but the point of this is basically treating an adult population of a free nation led by a democratically elected leader as children and if they accept it more fool them. And basically hotel quaratine is a misnomer it should be quarantine camp or jail it is far better that these things are represented truthfully.
