Then don't generalise about "rubber tracked monsters"

I repeat - It is cost per Ha NOT size or expense that counts.
There are not many 95e cats still working.
Contract farmer near here has a bendy john deere on tracks@ £400k?
I follow your philosophy, my big tractor was a fw 60
Cost per ha is important, but when the sh!t hits the fan its debt that matters.

I would love to expand , we have the kit ( all paid for so will last 20 years if it has to) and I some labour coming to help . I’d rather rent and be in full control although my bits of contracting are for decent people so it works.
problem is now in current climate how on Earth do you approach anyone to secure land for.

Everything is relative.
It really depends on the price we can achieve of our grain. Plenty of money to be made at £350 tonne even with AN at £1000 and diesel at £1.20.

I’m not so sure. When you add in the other costs such as stubble to stubble machinery, then fixed costs such as elec, rent etc and there’ll now be a new cost for many called ‘interest on borrowings’ to factor in. If interest rates hit 8% as some are suggesting and overdrafts have been increased to carry on farming, they’ll be some people sweating.

I’m glad we are mostly direct drilling running vario gearboxes. Been out with the sprayer today and it’s spot rate is 0.3l/ha fuel. Actual rate is 0.6l/ha including travelling and filling. Glad I haven’t got a SP still reving it’s nuts off all day.

Industry has been through much worse before. If wheat was £60/tonne I reckon people would be a lot more worried.

If people stop farming land solely for the tax benefits then the industry will be better off as a whole as supply will begin to dwindle.

It's the same as it ever was: careful planning and careful management and hopefully winning more than 5 times out of 10 and you must be doing something right.

“opportunity cost” has always been a thing, borrowing or not it should be costed ………… it’s just got significantly bigger

Johnson wants much more money diverted to wind farms, would be a bit chilly tonight! Bars

And Rishis is apparently lukewarm on nuclear power stations. But for the price of five power stations we can build an elecric rail line from London to Brum so folk can save 10 minutes. For 30 years successive governments of all political persuasion have kicked this nuclear can down the road. And here we re - need them and they are not there.
