Hi,
So basically I'm a college student in Tallahasee, FL and I stumbled upon ranch of dairy cows in a suburb. I wanted to try to pet them/ feed them apples from across the fence( it goes up to my neck I'd say and is barbed wire). Every time I go to feed them the apples and carrots I've sliced for them, I get too scared and end up not going up to the fence. I called the community that the ranch is near and they connected to me to somebody named "Captain Bob". He says that they're the most docile dairy cows and the county owns them. I asked if there are any bulls and he said he hasn't seen a bull in there for years, but it sounded like he hadn't visited it recently(I'm just guessing). Anyway, I went back to feed them and a man working for a landscaping company was laughing at me because I was too scared to go up to the fence and feed them. I said I was scared and he said they're nice, so I asked if other people here feed them and he said yes, so I went up and gave them my apples. They were nice, very curious though, which made me a little nervous. They loved the cold apples!
I am very scared of there being a bull on the farm. I'm aware of how dangerous they can be too. I've fed them 2 or 3 times now( there are like a hundred on the field) and I've seen about 3-5 bovines with a penis. I was wondering if they are all bulls or maybe if they're steers? Is it normal for more than 4 dairy bulls to be on a pasture? Or is it more normal for them to be steers? It's also kind of close to a sidewalk in the residential neighborhood, so do you think they'd put bulls in it? But mainly, would it be safe for me to just go up to the fence to feed them? Would a bull/cow/steer try to jump the fence or charge me through the fence? I've been really wanting to feed them and make their friend, but they're so massive and beautiful, it's a little intimidating and I would love some advice from a real farmer with experience!
