quick fixes, bodges and creations

Until I sold it last year, I'd had my JCB Loadall since new in 1984. Wanting to move trailers about easily, I made up a hook to fit on the end of a pallet fork. To hold it on, I blew a hole through the fork, with the gas, for a pin. I understand that your not supposed to do things like that these days, as it would invalidate the certification of the attachment.

The JCB and my old tractor have been replaced with a loader tractor. Not wanting to take the gas to my new pallet forks, the hook is now held on with some pipe and a bracket. 20190604_121550_002.jpg

Standard thing on nearly all industrial forklift overhere in argicultural (ish) use. Throw in a pin in the toweye of a trailer and off you go.
I never heard someone having problems with it in certification which is kind of mandatory on industrial forklifts.

i have a funny feeling that altho your idea is a good one when you move a few trailers about, the two eyes on the hitch bracket end out on the fork are going to tear off, the fork will flex a lot when its holding a trailer eye out on the end there but maybe not.
i have something similar here but it slides down the fork the whole way with two ears on it that i put a pin through it on the back of the fork to keep it in place, id often see the fork bent down 4 or 5" times but id be moving balers and such with it as well so they would be heavyish.

Back to the drawing board. I tried my hook today and it was hopeless. The problem is the lack of visibility, as it's on a foreloader. I've had 34 years of using a loadall. I think that I'll have to have a few links of chain and a hook or a D link hanging down so that I will be able to see it.

The first half ton bags of fertilizer that I bought (in the eighties) came with 2 webbing loops attached, presumably because the loops of the bags were not condusive to easy picking up with pallet forks. I saved them all and looped a lot together to make lifting straps. I used them for years for many purposes.

For the quick movement of my trailer, I have bundled 4 previouly unused ones together and can hang it on a carriage locking pin. A D link on the lower end to connect with the trailer eye.

Fridays job no new steel was harmed only off cuts and old bits the box has been bolted on 5 tractors before this one (not had front links before) Just don’t look at the new pins. I hate painting so I can’t see that happening anytime.

Exhaust disasters today!! Bend had blown a hole at the bottom, the following struggle to remove it made things slightly worst!!

Unfortunately I don’t have a fancy pipe bender that can bend 70mm that tight!! Therefore as it was needed there and then the bandsaw came into action and some quick welding!! Definitely qualifies as a bodge!!

Couldn’t use just one 45degree bend as it would be to close to starter motor!!
