Needed a 13mm masonry bit (don’t ask),but only had a 12mm or 14mm so I ground the 14mm down on the bench grinder [emoji106][emoji106].
Points deducted for measuring with the very near gauges (verniers)

Along these lines today I needed to drill a hole for a bolt. I had the bolt, there were some drill bits in the drill box but with me not having my reading glasses so can't read the drill sizes I picked out a washer for the bolt and then picked the drill bit that was closest to the hole in the washer, result.

The extraction fan I was using for my fume extractor was crap. So I put a new one in. It was still crap... but it was quite cool because it cut out when there was no smoke and kicked back in when I started to weld again. They’ve got some sensor in them to work when there’s moisture in the air in shower settings, must’ve been something to do with that.

How you finding things over there, apart from the peace and tranquility?

Any romantic ventures available to you on the cold evenings 👍

It’s been peaceful and tranquil... very easy winter so far, only a few stormy days, almost dull.

nope, the romantic encounters on the remotest farm in Iceland in the winter are few and far between at the moment to say the least!
I unstuck a couple of Czech girls from some snow drift one morning last week while I was doing the morning road check, and one Icelandic girl was here to see the church with her old mother, that’s been all I’ve seen for a few months.
off for a week to see some friends, so getting a change of scenery for a bit.

people think I’m nuts for coming up here, but it’s heaven!
Going to be leading a split country life for a while, Scotland in the spring, summer and early autumn, Iceland for the winter.

I'm actually envious. Would love to be out there with no crap to bond you down.

Keep the photos coming - very interesting differential to what we are dealing with. 👍

I have crap to bind me down.
A dog that I love to bits and miss a lot, and machines scattered around the U.K. needing shifting to home

Used to alway fancy a go at that. Think it would be an awesome experience if you could hack the cold and being so far away.
You'd need to be able to turn your hand to anything, with your skills you would handle it.
I'm a bit old nowadays though.
Feck all coin for what it is too tbh. Think youd want double that.

I was thinking about it. I don’t know if I actually want to do it. It would be awesome to do it, but I miss my workshop stuff and my pickup project.
I should put in the application and see if I get a chance first I suppose...

My mate did maintenance out there I'm prity sure all the money is tax free and your expenses were zero out there but I could be slightly wrong
My friends mother keeps telling me I should go work for him in Kalgoorlie on his drilling rigs, something like £35 per hour, tax to come off too though.
Not much to spend it on, so a good way to earn too.
Think I’d prefer the cold though.

Some of the pic s from it are amazing if you are able to don’t let the money put you off. Next job you go for and they ask you about experience not many will match that
