Second attempt at the 530 Door Catch tonight, the last effort was held in place by a piece of oak whittled down but too much wear in the wood and we were Dukes of Hazard this afternoon.

This time actual 10mm steel wedged in the slot where the plastic handle thing should be, bent a bit of flat to go round the back of the little silver lever, quick splurge with my new mig welder and it clicks open beautifully.

Did some bodging of my own tonight as well doing something I know nothing about up a ladder with a torch in true bodger style. Big damp patch on the rendering of the house and water running down the window under here where whoever had the house before us quite a long time ago had done some bodging and it failed. I knew there were some lead offcuts on the floor of an outbuilding on the farm so I gathered them up, found some ancient tin snips and had a go. Its solid and there are no holes there now managed to shove the bits under the lead and copper sheet that qas already there. I'm guessing that the copper sheet you can just about see should come down another inch or so but it doesn't someone had just covered the hole with plaster that fell off...
Looks a f**king mess i know but I see no way water could get in now hopefully it will do until I can do a better job with a bigger piece of lead that would do it in one go or even better get someone who knows what they are doing 🙈

I love this thread. There are some great bodges, fixes and innovation here:)

This is our dish washer. The handle snapped off not long after we got it. The bolts replace screws that ripped out of the flimsy plastic front piece. The latching mechanism inside has also been bodged after it broke but no pics of that. PS don't buy zanussi white goods. They're utterly sh!t

Full metal shaft of a sledge? We had one once which had a scaffold pipe handle welded on it and no one would swing it properly more than once. It then had one made from hazel which was much better.
You only need to swing this thing ONCE!!, I haven’t seen anything that hasn’t moved with one tump yet!😂
The lad is only 21 and he can swing it like a baseball bat, 🤪
