This is very relevant to us and starting this thread to see a wider opinion.
We have our 93 yr old at very short notice come to live with us RT want to do an inspection . To safe guard our 93 yr old FIL we have stopped visitors etc as he is deemed 'at risk' If we fail to allow the inspection then we lose our status . We have no idea where this inspector has been prior to visit .
The cost of not being RT will cost us dearly .....but we have to protect my FIL ..........RT office not helpful !!
Any thoughts ......

Are you an NFU member? Ring their helpline if so. NFU & RT have a strong connection so enough enquiries will generate the discussion at a higher level with a common sense outcome. Well, you can try anyway!

I'm not sure you can feasibly ban them - just make sure the FIL is well out of the way & the RT inspector is fully masked up and has sanitiser etc. Stay 3m away from them at all times & have your paperwork ready for them in advance. Ask RT how much could be done remotely. The inspector will be as nervous as you are. Mine is due in mid May & the inspector is in his late 60s and self employed, so theoretically at a higher risk than me.

When does your RT status run out? I’d say that it would be difficult to take any sort of high ground whilst the schools etc are still open, but as soon as they close them all such meetings would be off by default. If you can stall for a couple of weeks, that would maybe be enough...

Also, how much difference would RT make to your wallet? Probably nothing for sheep at the moment, not so sure about other things. Not worth risking health for £200, I’d say. If it’s enough, set up a table in the shed and do the meeting there.

Remember that asymptomatic carrying by yourself is a real risk, so your elderly need proper isolation if that’s deemed important - no shared spaces or contact whatsoever with people who go to shops, work, Mart etc. Personally, I can’t see that being feasible and believe we will all be exposed eventually - the slowing down protects the herd and gives the NHS more time to prepare/ smooth out demand, but won’t stop your elderly from getting it in time.

Sorry didn't answer your first question . RT doesn't run out till next Jan but we were told on Fri that if we didn't allow an inspection to take place then we would have our status suspended

Get yourself a sniffle then and postpone it for a month - one way or. It it will be sorted by then.

“i’m feeling a bit under the weather, but it’s probably nothing - feel free to come if you want” will have the inspector rescheduling for you...

Very helpful lady on RT phone now just a couple of mins ago . Completely different to last Fri !
Firstly ..business as usual inspections will take place.
2nd. ....none of the inspectors have been abroad , if they have then they can't do inspections .
3rd ....RT will not do inspections on 'self isolating units'
4th ....units not inspected will keep their status at the very least until renewal and then it's a case by case system .

Either it's been discussed at length over the weekend or Fridays telephoning was having a bad day !

I think the truth is that none of us really know what the risks of contracting C19 really are BUT I would hope common sense would prevail as RT inspections are not critical to farming .......... we managed well enough in the past without endless inspections
Renew inspections when the crisis has passed.

Events dear boy, events. I would suggest it is fast moving and events have now ovetaken Fridays position of RT. But we shall see if petty bureaucracy wins the day. best of luck. Look after your FIL.

Whether the inspector has been abroad or not is becoming irrelevant now I would think!

sorted in a month? Dont be daft! We are very unlikely to see the number of cases do anything but increase for the next 3-6 months,
