Hi guys looking for some help or information the last two years I have bent the frogs on my dp7 c 3 furrow shear bots / the first year I managed to finish but last year it happened right at the start and had to borrow a friends kv with auto reset ( in fairness the field has about 6” of cover and then it’s rock below and not seen a plough in 40 years ) but I have a guy who has a rabe golden eagle on slats 4 furrow and was wondering if any one had ploughed with one and what are they like
I liked the kv but the cost of buying one and the fact most are welded has put me off
Ps I only plough average 20 a year mixed
Many hanks David

We had some land like that, The whole field was 40 acre ish but the top end of it (3 acres or so) was exactly like you said, barely 6 inches of soil above bedrock. We ploughed all of the field bar for that bit which we used work it about a bit with a set of old IH offset discs until we got a tilth, then any weeds that emerged as a result used to get a drop of roundup before drilling. To be honest with you it just wasn't worth wrecking the plough and bringing up boulders just for that bit.

My whole farm is like it, if the rock isn’t 6-12” under soil it’s on the surface!
we use a V&N hydraulic auto reset. Seems very strong plough which takes some stick. Points last about 25 acres on average.

Yip total nightmare guys strange thing is the top soil is really nice we did get a good spell and worked it to a nice seed bed but a lot of clods come up and instead of out an expensive seed down bought an short team grass seed which got a really good hold and we put sheep in November

It’s a good wee field and the final result was worth the effort just that worry about ploughing it again
