Race weigh/Eziweigh 7i EID

Morning

I am having two issues with the raceweigh, they are more an inconvenience than anything, the lambs back into the rear entrance to the crate and stand on the frame of the drafting doors. This gives an inaccurate weigh and slows the process down trying to get the lamb in the right position. Anyone else find this and devised a cunning work around.

I have been using the 7i with a trutest stick reader when weighing the lambs. No problem linking and the EID appears on the 7i screen but only stays there for a short while. It can disaapear whilst the lamb is settling and needs reading again. Am I missing something in the setup or is this normal.

Thanks

Could you try a simple non-return type arrangement within the crate to keep them forward? My Scan man has a 'hot bar' about two inches off the floor right across the race up to his crate and the ewes seldom go back over that. It's very annoying how lambs seem to push back as far as they can.

I have the same stick reader/weigh head combo and the EID only disappears after the weight has been recorded. Don't think I've ever had to scan twice, so I'm not sure what's happening there.

Ah now, I wonder if I have it set to auto record and it is recording to the eid and moving on. Something to check.

To be fair, all the systems I looked at had niggles. The big plus of the race weigh was that I could pack it all up in one go in the handling system by myself.

There are old threads on here about the race weigh, I have 1 and really like it for our use.
But it certainly has its issues, I welded bits in mine too stop them standing on the sides which made a big difference.

There are pictures of it on here somewhere!

Found the post that I copied for mine.

The 7i is not great in my opinion. It grabs a weight far to quick. I suspect it’s all recorded defore you realise. Contrary to how Mark from Rappa suggest ive got the tolerance set at 0.1d to try and slow it down. Last few lots of lambs pretty much tally with market weights so it seems an improvement.

Talked to Tru test only to be told what do you expect you bought the base model. The more expensive ones have a more sophisticated algorithm apparently. we had an exchange of views.

If you’ve got a resent one the side plates have been added according to Mark.

When I was chatting to him I asked if they thouht solid side gates would help stopping them backing up. They hadn’t tried it and didn’t think it would, but I am going to try tapeing the gaps and if it makes them stand further forward to see out.

@Woolless has a good idea I’ll see if can do something.

This is my big bear with my in race weighing, lambs pushing back in the rear gate giving false readings.

Race is solid sides, barred shedding gate at their head and barred rear gate.

Would a solid rear gate improve matters?

As to the weight and eid record disappearing from the ezi weigh 7, I’ve not had an issue though I’m using an agrident stick.

Forgot to say. If the 7i has locked a weight pushing the esc arrow makes it re-weigh if you didn’t already know
Yes, I do that a lot when weighing.

How do you alter the tolerance and what will that do? I weigh through a Rancher Gripper with a 7i and sometimes find that I lack a bit of confidence in the weights. Part of that is getting it stabilised on the floor of the pens, admittedly.

I’ve got a gripper, but can’t get it to weigh constantly. It’s a real same because it’s a brilliant way to handle lambs. The platform frame mustn’t put any pressure on the frame or it will alter the weight. As you say it needs to be on a good level hard surface. He designed it to work in the Rancher trailer.
The frame is just not strong enough.
On Mine the frame has twisted from using in the field and I can’t get it right. I’ve tried putting the platform in the Rappa but it still randomly transfers weight onto the Rappa.

If you want to see what’s happening with the weight set the indicator to Damp system averaging. This will give a constant read out of the weight and you can see what happens if the lamb moves or the frame touches without locking a weight.
Tolerance can be between 0.1 and 2. It is a multiplier of the the set resolution. So if the scale is set to the nearest 0.5 kg and the tolerance is set to 1.0 0.5x1=0.5kg the indicator will lock at a value that is within 0.5kg either side of the animals true weight. The lower the tolerance the longer to find the animals weight but more accurate.
To get to setup, press menu, down scroll to setup, press enter then down scroll to what you want to alter, press enter
This is a much better user guide than the one supplied

Hope that helps

That’s handy to know! Got a weighcrate here but if I’m doubting it (usually grading as it tries to stabilise weight) I just apply pressure again and release pressure. My weighcrate the gates are incorporated into the weight of the crate so even if they do try and go forward or back the weight doesn’t move - I thought the Raceweigh would be similar?

That’s the trouble of in race weighing. There’s not enough room for a crate that doesn’t touch the sides. It’s a compromise. Personally I value not having to lug a crate around on my own as I normally weigh in field and the race gives a stable platform. It’s not a major problem and they run well into the crate which is half the battle.

Further to @Woolless suggestion I tried this. It’s a 60x40x300 box section bolted to the back bolt of the weighbar. Seems to work quite well apart from the really bouncy ones. Stops most of them backing up to the back gate long enough for the weight to lock in. Need @scholland to try it for a second opinion.

only downside is makes putting in gates more difficult because they sit higher In the weigher

Good stuff. I would have thought that it would need to be higher to work but a nice easy fix for the problem 👍
