I can't believe I am reading that correctly ? You been on the magic mushrooms @gone up the hill ;)

Ha ha nope I was very impressed with him, he has been in the meat industry since the 1970's,knows his stuff very well, doesn't do any of that coporate BS but instead tells it like it is and if he doesn't know something he will readily admit it.

Very intresting to see the difference between the way meat is displayed/ promoted between the French and British supermarkets which apparently is down to the way the French will blockade a supermarket at the drop of a hat if they feel they aren't doing the job right.

He also said that the UK cannot start trade talks ( officially ) with any non EU country until the day we actually leave the EU.

As for the AHDB guy who is responsible for marketing in the UK, hopeless is the word I would use!

103% where do you get them sums from?
Iam just Arable here now & could farm without them but it would be very tough unless my rent is next to nothing.
So all those that are lucky enough to own there farms are laughing when these subs end.
They might not can afford there snazzy Chelsea Tractor 4x4's then mind & 3 sunshine hols away & all that Expensive Shooting over the winter as easily.

Many things but three key one's is climate and size of farms and the price of the land.

Thought climate in NZ and UK were very similar?

Land price, not an issue. Land ownership is not required to farm.

Size of farms? That will sort itself out as the smaller farms cannot cope and are sold to the bigger more efficient outfits. It happens in all industries and is the future. Why should farming be any different?

What a terrible advert for our industry that radio interview was! Not a single good case presented for payments, it was all on the back foot. The best thing Minett Batters could have done during the interview was mention the RSPB when Jeremy kept poking her with Mr Sheik recieving £400k, etc

The general public dont know enough about farm subsidies and their minds will be made up hearing interviews like this! Tragic!
if you voted out you don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to wanting subsidies I'm afraid.

I have never worn bare feet, shorts and got sunburnt on the shortest day in uk, but i have on nz shortest day.

Boggy.
Thought that was more due to differing soil types?
DUMFUK!
Maybe Gloucestershire might be comparable, but north of Birmingham the average temperature drops, rainfall rockets. Look at the distance to the equator and compare the day length. Yes UK &NZ maybe "comparable" in that neither are all desert and neither all tundra - both "temperate", but thats about it. Might as well compare Scotland with Greece - main similarity there is neither have any money!!

Charming. So are you claiming that in the UK farming north of Birmingham is uneconomical without subsidies?

No, just that nz climate is very different.
Winter is half the length and its generally dry, so no need for sheds or concrete or drainage . Animals can get through winter with little extra feed.= low cost

There seem to be two basic types of anti sub protagonists there are the ones who get no sub and don't want anybody else to get any either, which is fair enough I can see their point but the other ones who claim that all the sub goes to the landlords and large landowners get right up my nose, if they are stupid enough to give the landlord all their sfp then they should be back at school getting lessons in basic arithmetic and not wasting their time posting drivel on here.

Its quite obvious that you know sweet f all on the subject.
There was a court case a few yrs ago which compelled the tenant to pay most of his sfp in rent.
Nobody does it voluntarily, so spare us the insults.
