Rafter size

One of my customers wants me to put up a pole barn for him, he has the poles, going to be 20’x45’ with box profile roof.
What size rafter should we be using?

We used 6"x3" in this one, about 5 foot apart and 18' bays. Local chap cut them out of larch for me.

price up a steel building, factor in the ease of construction and the fact its a lot better job!
the purlins and roof sheets will be over 50% of the total cost, the steel frame will be roughly £1200? I reckon you wont regret doing it properly with ce marked shed etc

I agree with this. We only put up our pole shed because I'd had the poles for nowt at that time and it's only for machinery. If it was for livestock, I wouldn't entertain anything other than steel and concrete fibre roof.
