2,4D is the usual go to herbicide but there are other options.

I will take some pictures of them. Masses of them now eating anything thats left

I don’t know but I don’t see any thrushes or blackbirds after them and they went from just a handful two years ago to thousands of them . Ragwort fairies !

Drove from Bath to Winchester and back this weekend, two different routes, Wiltshire seems to be growing more ragwort than cereals.
Ragwort is an indicator species. Its proliferation indicates that traditional mixed farming in that area is fecked. Had never seen much of the stuff until went to Norfolk for the first time 20 odd years ago. It is now taking over swathes of Kent.
Councils don't help and their "managing the verges" techniques, aka saving money...
And of course, the smallholding good lifers and rough paddocks
