Rain

F all rain today after the weather warning! I can see August sown rape not germinating(in good subsoiled & rolled seedbeds) until the back end of September. So, another compromised OSR season before it even starts. A ceiling of 4t ish already set, rather than 5+. Downhill from the start; what a year!

If seed is sat dry I wouldn't worry too much. Its the stuff that has found enough moisture to get going I'm worried about. Some has chitted and died, and even well emerged plants are starting to struggle now on our gravel. Volunteer barley and blackgrass look stunning as always!!

Thats about the scale of it here too. But I wont be giving mine the chance to start growing at the end of September. Now lovely sunshine so my family day is now curtailed and I am off cultivating instead.

And here. Drilling into ploughed grass ley worked a treat last year, but disaster this year, grass sucked out all the moisture before it was ploughed. Leaving it though. We have had good yields from late sept drillings some years if warm into late autumn.

Linseed has sucked all the moisture out of the top few inches and let the sun bake the rest. Rolling the cultivations yesterday was like cycling down a cobbled street.

Was going to do a bit of spraying today, once the f'cast mist had cleared. 13mm of rain later it was a tad sticky!! Very gratefully received, bit pee'd that we missed the isolated shower this afternoon that was actually forecast!!

Dull morning here. Sun came out about 11, set off after lunch, combine, baler, wuffler to turn wet straw. Pouring down by half 1! Only lasted about 30 mins but enough to spoil it for day. Only about 7 acres left to cut so end in sight.

Rained today at 6:43. Finnished cutting the block of beans at 6:39. Shame at home farm with the OSR we had just enough to make the concrete damp.

All is saved. Rain forecast on Tuesday now.

Don't hold your breath Static! he forecasts are evaporating as far as rain is concerned the nearer they get to term.

Our part of N Lincs is missing everything. Rape seed in dust-land like concrete, stale seedbed- no chance!
