What do people use to avoid the flooded lick buckets?

Only a problem here after rain but never worried about it. I guess you could drill holes in them or tip upside down before heavy rain forecast.

Why worry about it?

The collected rainwater is safe for the sheep to drink - and they soon clear it off as it takes a wash of molasses with it. It doesn't ruin the bucket

I was going to say less buckets, they soon get rid of any wet...

If you don’t need the buckets after use, cut a slot with an angle grinder down the buckets so that the rain always has somewhere to drain as the lick is consumed.

Do you find there hard on there teeth?

Three between 100+ ewes lasts under a week. Don't find teeth lying around. They aren't rock hard and even the older ewes with diminishing teeth have a go by licking them. Loose teeth are loose teeth and will come out tugging on grass or bushes or licks I suppose.

I remember Dad using Rumevite blocks years ago. He used to put them in a round metal container, I'm guessing designed to perfectly fit a round block. Do you put yours on grass with or without container or similar?

Put rumevite blocks on grass.
If it starts to get a bit muddy round the block I prise the sheep off and move it somewhere clean.

Very hard on teeth from what I've seen, I was recently checking mouths of ewes for selling for somebody that feeds similar looking blocks, Even ewes at 4/5 years old had teeth worn all the way down to the gums. Only thing is, I suppose teeth wearing down evenly, even if all the way down to the gum, is still easier on the ewe than having long loose teeth or gaps.

Only get them for three weeks before tupping but take your point about teeth. Last year fed cake as ewes were under condition. Managed grass better this year and ewes looking good hence blocks.
Maybe next year no blocks after I check their teeth at scanning time.

Far too mean to buy their branded tubs, I’ve only ever fed them in cut off plastic 45 gallon drums. Remove the caps, or drill holes in the bottom, and the rainwater drains off.

They’re too damned expensive to just chuck out on the ground, but then I’m never using them in a hill scenario.

I haven’t fed them for a couple of years, but if I didn’t use the proper tubs, they’d eat away at the corners and get through them quicker. The new tubs have a slot down the side to let the water out.

Follow someone on Instagram who goes round in the evening putting the lids back on buckets, then goes round in the morning taking them back off again.
Sounds a right faff to me
