Raising grainstore roof

Wondering if anyone has ever raised an existing roof on a portal frame building...eg: remove all roof cladding...dismantle/take down steel rafters, purlins etc...weld extra 4ft onto stanchions...then refit rafters and re-clad roof. Would then need extra or replacement vertical cladding. Could this be cost effective? Getting fed up with restriction in tipping grain trailers!!

I'm having serious thoughts along similar lines, but thinking of dismantling an old 1960's portal frame grain shed and re-erecting it as a machine shed across the yard. Then building a new grain shed over a slightly larger footprint but with plenty head room.

We once added some height to some stanchions to add another shed along side the existing one, drilled and plated it plus welded wasnt that difficult if i remember ! But that was the days before the modern building standards !

I guess a handful of tall bottle jacks or a few telehandlers would do for the bodging thread.
I like the idea of removing the sheet above the posts and welding 8' onto it.
Weld a flat plate onto the sides of the flat side of the girder and it can only move up and down.....
The trick is getting the other trusses to move up at the same rate.
It could be a project for next weekend. ;)
