Raking in front of SPFH

How do people rake fields using a 30ft rake in front of a large SPFH, how many times do you guys go around the headland? I see some people go around 2 times and others 3 times.
Any tips on getting dead straight rows? Tia

I always thought much depended on how the field/headland had been mowed. One thing that will upset any chopper driver is an entire field of uneven lumpy swaths where you have been collecting or not collecting mower swaths with the rake!

EDIT: these days many contractors have GPS on the rake because that is the machine telling them the area of the field they are going to charge harvesting on. (y)

Unless he tells you otherwise, 3 times. Remember the trailer has to go round the outside of the forager at the same time when they're turning.

Don't overthink trying to drive straight. Just pick a point at the other end of the field about 15ft from the edge of your previous run and aim for it. Once you get your eye in you won't even realise you're doing it.

Go round end rigs anti clockwise if yer forager is loading trailers on the right. Or other way round if loading on the left. (wrong side🫢🫣) that way the 2nd n 3rd rows meet at the corners the right way, so must easier for forager. (Hard to explain🤦‍♂️)
Straightness not really an issue as long as it doesn't create alot of points at the end of the field wasting time.

Thanks. On the third headland row do you square off the edges as I assume the turning angle would be awful tight for the trailer man?

Rake is quite relaxing, although I confess I have never done it with the forager chasing right behind me. More modern rakes are a joy to use, the main obstacle being getting the thing in the gateway.
Most of them have steering axles nowadays so it makes getting in gateways a bit easier
