Ram Lambs as Stores

Due to a cock-up with teasers last year (basically I hadn't realised it would take them so long to become infertile after their vasectomy) I had a rather spread out lambing this year with a number being born middle May.

I am now running out of grass and am going to put all the females in as stores (they are SufTex x). My question is, does anyone buy uncastrated males as stores? When I have been able to keep them they have finished fine, and I could always try and beg more keep, but if I don't have to, Id be happy to sell them as store lambs.

Thoughts?

Put them in on ad lib lamb pellets. They'll be gone in 4 to 6 weeks but keep them away from the ewe lambs.

I might be wrong, but I seem to remember the OP has nowhere to put them 'in'. Maybe a creep feeder in a small field?

A better option than having them discounted as stores, especially if they are out of those goaty things.

I don't have anywhere to put them in, you are right - they are a woolshedder put to a suftex - You really couldn't tell, they could just as easily be out of a Lleyn or similar - the fat lambs make just as much as any other maternal x in mart. Edited to add pics so you can see what I mean...

in the right market (sat sedgemore here ) they sell nearly or as well as anything else , buyers finishing mainly for asian / turk trade as they like them unadulterated though this usually means undocked as well .
you need to do your homework with regard market , maybe have a word with auctioneer first he maybe able to help find a buyer for the day

How many Steve?

They are undocked Andy

I have bought some of their sisters and they are much further on/better conformation than any other terminal sire X ewe lambs I have bought, that includes some mule x suf x suf x char ie 87.5% terminal lambs---

turks will want them tim , they look good lambs ,would have been sought after in the live export trade years ago , the only issue in open mart is a buyer will need to keep them separate from ewe lambs so bit more hassle management wise , but in a big market there will be buyers that target such types , bigger discount in small local places as they maybe punted on again .

You need to know what there worth i sold a pen of suff x and a pen of pure easys made £3 less but i was the under bidder. I see loads of folk stand by while there lambs are given away because there off spec.
