Bought a ram in Tavistock Market on tuesday 9th October, full mouth suffolk, tag no. UK36539202119. Arranged for transport for it and some ewes I did not sell. When lorry arrived at farm no suffolk ram. Went back to market no ram. I am hoping some one has taken it by mistake. Auctioneers are making enquires and I have informed ARAMS as it is not on my holding, have also put the word around. Not sure what else I can do.

markets problem as they didn't check the loading docs properly?
if they can prove they were loaded onto correct lorry (CCTV?) then it could be the haulier?

I would think its deliberate, accident is loading the wrong ram, not loading 1 you didn't buy!

Not the haulier, local farming family, use them all the time. The ram was in a pen with a younger suffolk, I also put a BFL ram in the pen which I had bought, so 3 rams were in the pen when I left, 2 of mine and one other from the same vendor.

No help to you, but I'd have thought 'at the fall of the hammer' applies.
Tavi have previously checked paperwork of rams leaving that particular bun fight, but less so lately

Someone took a pen of nice Texal cross ewe lambs I bough from a sale last year whilst I was taking my first trailer load home, left me with a poorer pen of lynn crosses

As we know from the number of rustling cases every year there are plenty of scum around even in our walk of life and often from folk we'd always regarded as nice folk till they are found out. Society in the west seems to accept and tolerate theft as a fact of life. The eastern lack of tolerance and innate honesty it creates is much more admirable. A Japanese tv programme 'lost' 50 wallets with sums ranging from £100 to £1000 and all were returned within the day untouched. Theft be it a school bully nicking your Mars bar to breaking into your house is a very personal violation of your space and hugely emotionally distressing. Why we tolerate it baffles me. And don't get me started on bankers......

Dad and his brothers would mark all stock they bought as soon as possible after hammer or stick brought down. They each used a different pattern.

This thread has made me think about how complacent I've been in comparison.
I'm very surprised that the ram was allowed off site so easily, though. If they're catalogued in, they should be double checked out.

Hope it's tracked down soon, and whoever's had it has a thorough questioning.

Market has said it will stand the loss if it does not turn up. Even although they issue pass out paperwork I have never been checked loading at Tavistock , also not aware of any CCTV there.
The ram I bought was an older ram, my view being that if he had lived that long he should go on for a while and not melt/fade away like some young rams you buy that have been stuffed full of cake. Also the vendor was local to me so similar ground. Now I have to spend more time going to another market to get another ram. It is not as simple as just getting the money back.
