And if you want to find out what you are supposed to do with it, there is a judges seminar at North Petherton on the 18th Feb! Your on the slippery slope, wont be long before your thinking of match work.

Thanks roy for the offer on the skimmer and info but i am nr exeter in devon,i do work at a agri engineers in the stores so can get the wearing parts at trade but will have to get the bracket off flea bay etc and there is one on there,is the nc skimmer bracket plus whats on the front furrow worth trying to get something for or are they common and not worth bothering and forgot to ask what sought of age would this plough be,thanks again

I would change the front one to suit the rest of the skimmers, the NC skim were less popular and wearing metal for them would be harder to find

Mid 80’s

I reckon they were launched at Smithfield Show around 1975/6, so yours could be anywhere from then until Ransomes packed up.

The 300 series reversible, if my memory serves me correctly was launched at around the same time as Ford launched the 10 series, local demonstrator Gordon Graham who worked for Oakley's sold a lot of tractor plough combinations by demonstrating either a 6610 4WD or in steeper/heavier land a 7610 4WD with a 4 furrow 300 series Ransomes reversible, he could almost make it talk, year ? 1981 and I thought the spaceframe came out around the same time, but as no one in this area bought conventional ploughs by then I may be totally wrong.......................Great scan of the brochure YB

Max HP for 6 furrows.... 120hp!... horses were a lot bigger in those days.

It's not so much pulling a modern plough but the lifting of it that requires such a big tractor on the front, add to that wider furrow bottoms to accommodate larger tyres and wider furrow widths ploughed and it all adds up, KV claim when changing from No 8 bodies to 28's a 5% increase in draught requirement for a 20% increase in furrow bottom width, try turning some real heavy clay that far, more like 20%increase in draught, have to say also that the soil seems a bit more stubborn these days, it's being worked extremely hard now

My 300 HD series back in the summer, only just got the chance to shine it up last weekend, tractor is rated at 128HP, and recently dyno'd at 128.5 PTO HP, I expect it to run away with 6x14 inch furrows

That'll be the one with the 'nodding headstock' then.
It's a pity Ransomes didn't fit it to the 300 series ploughs right from the start.
Unfortunately their launch pretty much coincided with everybody we worked for wanting us to pull a press. Sadly the 300 headstock (with it's double handled front furrow arrangement etc) wasn't up to it. A thousand pities really, IMHO, the 300 series and all the take over/buyout/product rationalisation finished Ransomes as a company.

Nice 4050 Roy(y)

Yes, nodding headstock, you are right about the 300 finishing Ransomes off, the Dowdeswell DP7 and 8 were a much better machine

Has anybody got any experience in using knife type landslides instead of discs as I do a lot of ploughing in stoney ground and wouldn't be do matches

Swords and skimmers do not work on stony ground in my experience. We gassed then off after about 100 yards as stones jammed as soon as plough in the ground
Just use a disc on the back
