Ransomes point pins

I was given this the other day by a friend , thought it might bring back some memories to some of the older plough men on here, was impressed at how Ransomes went to all that trouble to present these pins in this soldered box, most people just used a bit of wood to hold the point on ! Nice keep sake Though.

I never knew that there was such a thing, I was always under the impression that a wooden peg was what was fitted from the start.

I suppose the wooden peg was the cheaper alternative to the above?

I used to make my own metal ones out of a length of round rod. Taper them on the old Wolf bench grinder then saw them off one at a time.
You could knock them out from below and re-use them but the best part was if you had to reverse from under a stone you still had a point attached and did not have to dig for it only to find that the cast bottom part had broken out and it was useless
