good job there David,
only advice but turn the furrow wheel the other way round, so the filled in smooth side is running on the furrow wall, that way round it can chew the edge a bit
Yes I need to cut a bit off hub to get wheel in tight enough when turned round. Wanted to be able to put it both ways as thought when chipping the opening back in and running a single off would be better this way round!

yes the center is pressed the wrong way from new, and that does not help with the job,
the one on mine all cracked up with turning to the right, i have now fitted a 19" motor bike tyre, with it being rounded, it turns no bother, and the tyre does not hurt the furrow wall

Ye discovered that the couple of times it’s been behind a tractor really need to turn left all the time. Starting to get itchy feet to get it into the field but know all this will be worth it when I get there! Thanks for advice though had plenty dealings with dads trailing ploughs but this the first rsld!

Elite Wheel.
Have seen 59 wheels round both ways. If you put the flange toward the furrow wall there is always the potential to fill it with skimming or break the furrow wall down into it.
The other way round always has the potential for damage turning right - but then again lots of original spoked wheels have been smashed turning right.

Just sketching a development out to plate mine similar to the elite. Just getting it rolled that’s the problem. Would probably need to be riveted in the centre for it to stand the heat without twisting. The flange should be ok welded.
Time a scarce commodity just now and not a lot getting done.

I dont have any wheels to examine, but, could you put two rim to rim, cut the rim off one, and weld the remaining disk to the other?

We are all possessed of angst and vitriolic tendencies. Whether or not it should be unleashed on others who are by and large helpful individual is another matter entirely.
Having talked to the man often, I dont think there is any malice involved, but he does like to wind people up, and, like others I dont think this is really the place for it.He is akin to those who run the marathon in a divers suit, to them its a bit of fun, to the athletes whose efforts he is demeaning? Perhaps not.

Fair coment Harry but it still leaves a lot of people gobsmacked and in wonderment. Invariably the one ultimately wound up is himself.
On the other side of the coin, whilst free speech is every individuals right, there are a good number of people - especially on FB - simply do not like some of the things he posts and are totally confused by it.

I think he is totally confused by something, self inflicted or whatever. I think he feels inferior and tries to cover his failings by acting the clown. Very sad really but it takes all sorts as they say.

I too, am at a loss as to why he does this, I can only believe its to annoy people. This being the case, I hope my answers show that he has failed, and perhaps he will stop, though I doubt it!

HE is listening! This thread started with land-wheels then drifted into furrow-wheels by mistake. Now it gets personal as if Darth Vader was my father! A depth wheel has just one function and if you choose to put it outside the frame then you must jack it out further for the last run to be guided at a distance on the fluffy stuff you just turned over. Yet, on that last run, you still have some virgin ground as a datum point and a uniform sole furrow to build. Convention shouldn't apply to conventional ploughing.
