We have done that in the past, the Jack Russells had enough after a bit with fumes using and old chainsaw engine.
Pellet gun and night sights far easier. The Jack still has the odd rat round the farm at every opportunity. (y)

storm secure here, had a bizare incident last year, opened the box to find hundreds of moth caterpillars eating the bait, obviously impervious to the poison but were all bright green from the poison, Absolutely horrifying so on the fire with the whole lot of them, luckily there were only 10-15 blocks in the box left. don't need those toxic butterflies here. Poisons quick acting just doesnt seem to be being eaten here this year? not sure why, someone said TOMCAT is better?

were using it around chickens and ducks i don't like doing it but you can guarantee you put feed out within 3 mins of standing watching four rats just walk out not fussed, getting bored of airgun practise they soon learn to be wise though.

For those of you worried about non target spieces getting poisen make some bait buckets, personally use 40gal drum with top cut out and a silage wrap tube bolted vertical to the inside about a couple of inches from bottom, ideally with a dish of some sort under end of tube to hold the bait, fill the tube with poisen and cut a couple of rat size holes in the bottom of the barrel on opposite sides, finally a lid for the barrel depends how you cut top off, either use that or a bit of play wood/tin to keep rain or non targets out, I find the lids off the big mineral lick buckets fit, place barrel on or near a good run rats will come in through the side holes get a belly full and leave the poison in tube will self fill the dish under, the same principle can be done with smaller barrels/buckets, a good fitting lid is the key and not too big a hole in side, easy to check and top up poisen as required
