Baler stripped of broken bits this morning then trekked off to fetch second hand part, got back at 4 ish and rebuilt by 7. Not an easy bit to fit on your own either on a tandem axle, everything's in the way lol.
Needs setting up but do that in morning.
I feel your pain.
Changed out one of those in the middle of the night on my own and it sucks.
Fair play to you. (y)

Hi, I have just had the wide angle joint fail on my Claas 1200. One of the inner ball sockets have broke off.. wonder if anyone knows to the best source of a new wide angle joint? The rest of the shaft is fine. Local claas dealer has a half shaft for £870. Does that seem reasonable? I do approx 1000- 2000 bales a year so a reasonable aftermarket one should last a few years.. The parts for the end via our Kramp agent is £600. Thanks for any advice.

How did you work that one out!? Its still the same amount off grass/straw going through the baler over the whole field baled its still the same amount of string whether they are 4ft or 8ft bales. if anything its more wear tear as your knotters are tripping twice as many times doing 4ft bales as 8ft bales. tractors still running at 1000 pto etc etc ........

I would actually expect to pay the same for 4ft as i would 8ft and be very surprised if i was charged less.
Do you need a picture?
A 120*70 quad 240 long (8') has two lengths of 240 & two of 70cm each time round the bale * 6 strings = 620cmx6 = 3720cm per bale

A 4' quad uses (2x120)+(2x70) = 380cmx6strings = 2320cm per bale

Half the length bale but 61% of the string. More bales per acre.

A 6' bale uses 30m of string. So 75% of the bale length and 76% of the string. Near enough.

I charge £4 for 8' straw & £3 for 6' hay. Simple.

Let's say there's 480 8' bales = £1920
Same job would generate 640 bales if they were 6' long = £1920
The 3p/bale extra cost in string for 6 footers isn't worth worrying a
